1955 Jaguar XK-140 MC SE OTS, #S-810096

Cream/tan roadster. Exceedingly rare, professionally restored, authentic matching numbers, Concours condition. Show or vintage touring car with unique features.

• Authentication: Chassis No.: S-810096
Body No.: F-10098
Engine No.: G-1150-8S
Build Date: Nov. 1, 1954

These are original, matching numbers, verified authentic by the Jaguar-Daimler
Heritage Trust Certificate No. 21260, issued May 13, 2002.

• Nomenclature: XK140 = XK-Series type, 140 mph (“G-“ prefix on engine no.)
MC = Modified Competition engine (“-S” suffix on engine no.)
SE = Special Equipment body (“S-“ prefix on chassis no.)
OTS = Open Two Seater roadster (“F-“ prefix on body no.)

The MC-engined cars included factory-installed “C”-type (Competition) race
engines used in the 1951, -53, -55, & -56 Le Mans-winning race cars (different
heads, cams & valves; modified intake runners & timing; and 2” SU H8 carbs).

The Special Equipment (SE) bodies included dual exhausts, fog lights, wire wheels and a windshield washer system.

• Production Build Numbers & Rarity: Only 3349 XK140 roadsters were ever built, and of these 2064 were the MC/SE version. How many are left is unknown, but JDHT (Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust) has certificated only 350 known remaining authentic MC/SE roadsters.

• Condition: Professionally restored in 2002. Original color “Cream” exterior, tan interior. Suitable for show, driving, or vintage touring, this reliable & sorted-out car is in Concours condition. It received a 10.0 Driven Class JCOA award in Oct. 2007. The clock, heater, windshield washer, cigar lighter (a no-smoking car), lights, & all instruments work. Wheels are correct 54-spoke wire. Tires are new modern Michelin radials. Top, tonneau cover, side curtains, owners & maintenance manuals, bulb kit, & complete tool kit are included.

• Unique Features: For safety’s sake and drivability, during restoration this particular car was fitted with driving lights and a leather bonnet safety strap (both factory options), 4-wheel disc brakes, seat belts, and an alloy radiator of correct design with electric fan. It has a cockpit-located battery disconnect switch. For appearance, it carries a full wooden dash.

Ebay item 4/23/09

Car has a buy it now price of $165,000 for 20 days.

Sellers description:
JDHT Certificate No. 21260, which documents its authenticity as having the original chassis, engine, body, and transmission.

Chassis no. S-810096 ("S" prefix denotes SE or factory Special Equipment body). Body no. F-10098 ("F" denotes OTS or Open Two Seat roadster). Engine no. G-1150-8S ("G" prefix denotes XK-140 series, "S" suffix denotes MC or factory Modified Competition engine).

Build date was Nov. 1, 1954, but the car was for 1955 export production. The original distributor was Hornburg in Los Angeles, and the original owner was from Encino, California.

I have owned this car since it was professionally restored in 2002 to Concours condition. It has 1400 miles since restoration. The exterior is the original Cream color, and the interior is Biscuit (tan) leather. Suitable for competitive showing or collecting, it is also a sorted-out, reliable and delightful driver for vintage touring.

It has the factory original MC (Modified Competition) engine, identical with those in the Le Mans winning race cars, which was rebuilt during the restoration. This has 2" SU H8 "Sandcast" carbs, factory special C-heads & race cams, modified timing, and modified intake runners.

The factory original SE (Special Equipment) body includes dual exhaust, fog lights, wire wheels, and windshield washer system. For safety and drivability, this car is also fitted with driving lights, 4-wheel disc brakes, seat belts, leather bonnet safety strap, cockpit-located battery disconnect switch, and an alloy radiator with electric fan. For appearance, it has a full wooden dash.

The clock, heater, windshield washer, cigar lighter (non-smoking owner), and instruments all work. Wheels are correct 54-spoke with new Michelin radials. The soft top, tonneau cover, side curtains, owners & maintenance manuals, bulb kit, and complete tool kit are included.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
