This 1955 Jaguar XK140 fixed head coupe is finished in red and powered by a 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car is said to have been based in British Columbia since new and was refurbished by Alistair Black Special Services between the late 1980s and early 1990s. The seller acquired the car in 2014 and subsequent service included overhauling the suspension and steering and installing wire wheels, Wilwood front disc brakes, an additional radiator header tank, an electric fan, and a gear reduction starter. This XK140 FHC is now offered in Canada with service records, historical photos, a tool kit, Jaguar literature, spare upholstery material, and British Columbia registration in the seller’s name.

The car was refinished in red and features driving lamps, chrome bumpers with overriders, and additional brightwork including the window trim, grille, driver-side mirror, door handles, and exhaust finishers.

Splined hubs were installed during current ownership, and the car rides on chrome 16″ wire wheels wrapped in Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A matching spare is stored in the trunk. Wilwood disc brakes are fitted up front, and the seller states that the steering rack was recently rebuilt. The front suspension is said to have been refurbished with replacement sway bar bushings, upper arm bushings, and ball joints.

The cabin is upholstered in red leather and features a wood dashboard and door trim. Equipment includes seatbelts, a heater, a lockable glovebox, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and translucent sun visors.

Centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation includes a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and gauges for fuel level, amperage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 14k miles, approximately 7k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter inline-six features dual overhead camshafts and dual SU carburetors. Service during current ownership reportedly includes replacing the fuel pump and installing a remote radiator header tank, an electric fan, and a gear reduction starter.

Cylinder-head stamping G3997-8 is pictured above and matches the chassis plate in the engine bay.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox.

Service records, historical photos, a tool kit, Jaguar literature, and spare upholstery material are included in the sale. The seller states that the car competed in Jaguar Club of North America and Canadian XK Club Register events between 1993 and 2012 includes written documentation of the resulting awards.

I purchased this car from Miles Fenton in BC after the BaT auction did not come close to reaching his reserve. It will soon be in transit to South Carolina.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
