Auction description:
Lot 137: 1959 Jaguar XK150 Drophead Coupe
Spring Auction, Coys (20th April 2005)
Overview
We are pleased to present this delightfully rare and unrestored right hand drive UK car complete with heritage certificate, original tool kit and green log book (discontinued in 1978 and showing only 2 previous owners). The history file has a complete set of MoT's dating back to 1972 and the 85,000 mileage appears to be genuine. The car has been maintained and serviced by p&k Thornton, a reputable Jaguar specialist, regardless of expense and kept in the best possible mechanical condition. it has always been garaged with miles driven during the summer months only. the engine is described as quiet and responsive with excellent oil pressure and virtually zero oil consumption between services. the modern clutch, overdrive and moss box are well set up running gear make this a real drivers' car. during a perfect tour to monte carlo, 847 kpj proved it to be a relaxing and stress-free grand tourer. within the last two years, mechanical work has been undertaken by p&k thornton in nottingham with photo records to back up. the engine has been removed from the car and rebuilt with new pistons and an unleaded conversion and new clutch assembly. a complete rewire with all faulty electrical components replaced, the chassis refurbished and waxoiled, the front suspension and steering overhauled and brakes overhauled with new master cylinders. guy broad fitted a panard strut and the bumpers have recently been rechromed, the interior blue leather has been retrimmed by Suffolk and Turley with 5 avon turbospeed radials fitted along with a stainless steel exhaust. this thoroughly sorted and extremely well presented example of this most classic of marques has recently undergone a full service and is ready to go.

Auction description:
Supercar Fest Sale of Iconic and Classic Cars
An older restoration built to SE-specification, well maintained and sensibly upgraded.
This lovely 3.4-litre XK150 Drophead Coupé, finished in Old English White with dark blue leather and a blue hood and sitting on chrome wire wheels, is a very good looking car but has no aspirations to Concours success with the meticulous planning and detailing that involves. This car is designed to be used and enjoyed, a jump in and go, 'let's take the Jag' sort of approach. Originally supplied by Guy Salmon of Thames Ditton, it's accompanied by its Heritage Certificate which confirms that all the relevant numbers in evidence today match those on the day it left Browns Lane in 1959. Restored some years ago, it was refinished in its original Old English White and has benefited from a full engine rebuild by XK specialists, P&K Thornton of Nottinghamshire. Built to SE specification, it's fitted with overdrive and has been upgraded with twin stainless steel exhausts and Coopercraft 4-pot brake calipers.
The Jaguar's history file contains some engine rebuild photographs, the Heritage Certificate, the original 'Buff' Logbook and a number of invoices confirming that the car has been lovingly maintained along the way. Built as a 'drivers car' to be used and enjoyed as originally intended, 847 KPJ is now ready to hit the open road once again.
