Car offered at:

Seller's description:

1961 Jaguar XK 150 Roadster

Engine 3.4 Litre

Transmission 4 Speed Manual with O/D

Price £140,000

A very elegant and desirable original matching numbers UK RHD XK150 3.4 OTS finished in midnight blue with a beautifully contrasting mulberry leather interior, along with a dark blue mohair hood. Just 93 RHD cars left the factory, so a rare commodity indeed and especially so when as good as this and taking into account the factory fitted manual overdrive too.

The current owner is a certified Jaguar 'nut' and I've had the pleasure of handling the sale of a number of his exceptional Jaguars previously. Interestingly, this gentleman started his career with John Coombs here in Guildford more than 55 years' ago, and has remained in the business locally all of his working life. He has always maintained a significant number of 'leaping cats' in his garage but with the passage of time, numbers have quite naturally reduced. However, a 'hot' Coombs MK2 and a XJ6 4.2 Coupe manual remain, along with a couple of early MG's and his first ever car, an Austin Seven.

Touring and rallying have always been a major feature within the household and thus some 15 years ago a 150 OTS was deemed highly suitable to take over the reins from the slightly more blustery early E Type OTS. The search was on.....!

With a preference for "off-market" cars, this splendid example was muted through the grape vine. Following a brisk journey down to Wiltshire and casting his discerning eye over the car, hands were quickly shaken as evidently # S820089 was completely fit for purpose!

In fact it was better than that, as the significant recent works with Twyford Moors included a total bare metal respray and a complete re-trim which evidently enhanced its appeal. A further endorsement of the car's DNA was that both Charles Fripp and Ian Mills at Twyford Moors had handled the car's sale twice in 15 years.

As some of the photographs clearly show, Twyford had incorporated some sensible upgrades to both the brakes and cooling, with the fitment of superior Coopercraft calipers and an enhanced Kenlowe fan, plus electronic ignition and proper inertia seats belts....whilst for music fans, there's a good radio/CD system neatly installed too.

Given their home workshop would shame some lesser commercial outfits, this lovely Jaguar has always been beautifully maintained and thus is spot on mechanically and super to drive. There is a good history file and loads of MOTs which endorse the stated mileage. Pleasingly there is both a touring tonneau and a complete correct tool roll, which nowadays are both rare and increasingly expensive to source.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
