1960 Jaguar XK-150 drop head coupe, late 1960 XK150 3.8 drop head coupe with 4 speed and factory overdrive, 43,000 original miles, and matching numbers with the Jaguar Heritage Certificate. There were 540 3.8 DHC cars produced with only 264 built with overdrive and only 60 cars built with the 9 to 1 compression which this car has. Purchased from the original owners, it had never been in an accident or the body disasembled. I have had the car stripped to metal and painted in its original color, Carmen Red. The paint and body fit is fantastic. The interior leather and Wilton Wool carpet was replaced and is excellent. All the original exterior chrome has been refinished and looks fantastic. The car runs and drives very well without squeaks or vibrations. All the engine nuts, bolts, clamps are oiginal to the car. It starts perfectly and does not require a trickle charge to maintain the battery. It shifts very well and overdrive works as it should. All electrical lights and gauges works correctly. Excellent tires and brakes. It has always been very well maintained. There are no engine or transmission leaks. The top is in excellent condition.
Price: $118,000

This 1960 Jaguar XK150 Drophead Coupe is a left-hand drive example that was built on January 21, 1960 and distributed in the US through Jaguar Cars of New York. It was acquired around four years ago by the seller, and subsequent work performed by Aagaard Classics of Salt Lake City, Utah included a refresh of the mechanical systems, refinishing the underbody, and replacing the soft top, carpets, and brake components. Finished in red with a black soft top over matching leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a Moss four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Features include Lucas driving lamps, dual exhausts, chrome bumpers with overriders, and polished knock-off wire wheels. This XK150 is being offered in Charlottesville, Virginia with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, documentation from current ownership, a tool kit, and a clean Montana title in the name of the seller’s LLC.
Finished from the factory in Carmen Red, the car was repainted during prior ownership. A replacement black soft top and boot cover with red piping were added during current ownership, and the car is equipped with dual exhausts, chrome bumpers with overriders, and Lucas driving lamps. Various paint chips and imperfections are pointed out in the gallery below, and the seller notes that the top bows have not been refinished.
Polished replacement 16” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and mounted with 185-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires that were fitted during the refresh. A full-size spare is found in the trunk. Braking is through discs at all four corners, and the seller notes that the calipers, rotors, and hydraulic components have been replaced.
The seats are trimmed in black leather, and work during current ownership reportedly included replacing the dash pad, headliner, and carpet, as well as reupholstering the rear seats and surrounds. Equipment includes a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, a locking glovebox, and lap belts for front occupants.
A four-spoke steering wheel with a lace-up leather covering sits ahead of a central display housing Smiths instrumentation that was reportedly rebuilt and includes a 140-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 46k miles, around 2,500 of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six is equipped with twin SU carburetors. The engine was cleaned, repainted, rebuilt, and re-sealed by Aagard Classics of Salt Lake City, Utah in 2020, and the crankshaft was machined at that time. The seller states that the wiring harnesses and electronics were refurbished or replaced as necessary.
The Moss four-speed manual transmission is equipped with overdrive and a non-synchromesh first gear and was overhauled per the seller. A replacement stainless steel exhaust system was also installed and the floor pans and battery boxes replaced. Rust repairs were performed on the underside and around the front of the transmission tunnel, and undercoating was applied to the chassis.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors and options and shows a completion date of January 21, 1960. Email correspondence with the Jaguar Heritage Trust Archive Department provided below indicates this car to be one of 94 left-hand drive Drophead Coupes equipped with a 3.8L inline-six with a 9:1 compression ratio and a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive.
