This 1952 Jaguar XK120 roadster was acquired by the current owner in 1980, and it underwent a multi-year refurbishment that spanned from the late 2000s through 2024. The car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in Twilight Blue over Duo-Blue leather. Equipment includes dual SU carburetors, an aluminum radiator, a 12-volt battery, a dual exhaust system, a split front windshield, chrome 16” wire wheels with knock-off hubs, and Smiths gauges. This XK120 roadster is now offered by the seller, a BaT Local Partner, on behalf of the current owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records, refurbishment photos, a soft top frame and fabric, a car cover, and a clean California title.
The car came finished from the factory in Twilight Blue, and it received rust repairs and replacement battery boxes by Acme Garage of Fallbrook, California in 2008. After being coated in primer, the body sat for a number of years until being repainted by Classic Car Collision of Vista, California in 2024 following additional repairs. LED taillights and turn signals have been added, and a soft top frame and canvas accompany the vehicle but are not installed.
The 16” wire wheels are powder-coated silver and feature chrome knock-off hubs and are mounted with 6.00-16 Firestone Deluxe Champion tires. The car was factory equipped with an independent front suspension with telescopic-type hydraulic shock absorbers as well as semi-elliptical rear leaf springs and Girling hydraulic rear shock absorbers. The brake drums were turned and the shoes re-lined in 2011, and additional work included refreshing the suspension hardware, replacing the front shocks, and refurbishing the rear shocks. The steering box was rebuilt in 2023.
The cabin features bucket seats that were reupholstered in Duo-Blue leather in 2024, and the seller tells us that the left floor has been modified to accommodate a taller driver.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation, which were repaired in 2023, including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 17k miles, a handful of which have been added since completion of the work.
The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six was rebuilt during the refurbishment with replacement pistons and a hydraulic timing chain tensioner. An aluminum radiator, a single 12-volt battery, and a dual exhaust system have been added. The dual SU carburetors were rebuilt in 2019, and the starter motor and fuel pump have also been overhauled.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel were replaced during the refurbishment. The brake drums, suspension parts, and chassis were refinished by Everett Garage of Fallbrook in 2022.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate shows the factory colors and identification numbers along with a build date of May 1, 1952.
The car is titled in California using the engine number W48188.
