This 1953 Jaguar XK120 is a Drophead Coupe that is believed to have remained with one family before being acquired by Muncie Imports and Classics of Muncie, Indiana, in 2022 and restored as part of a multi-year project completed in 2025. Finished in black with a removable black soft top over red leather, the car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six fitted with dual SU carburetors and linked with a four-speed manual gearbox. It is further equipped with a split front windshield, rear wheel spats, and 16″ steel wheels as well as burl wood interior accents, a heater, and Smiths instrumentation. This XK120 Drophead Coupe is now offered on dealer consignment by Graham Rahal Performance—a BaT Local Partner— with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, an owner’s manual, a service manual, a tool roll, and an Indiana title listing the car as a 1954 model.

Chassis 677770 left the factory finished in black with a black soft top over red leather upholstery. The car was stripped, disassembled, repainted, and refurbished in its factory color scheme as part of a claimed 3,000-hour restoration completed by marque specialists Muncie Imports and Classics in 2025.

The car is finished in black with a removable black soft top and features a split front windshield, tri-bar headlamps, fender-mounted mirrors, and rear wheel spats as well as chrome front bumpers and rear bumperettes.

The black-finished 16″ steel wheels wear Jaguar-branded hubcaps and are mounted with Avon tires. The car was factory equipped with an independent front suspension with telescopic-type hydraulic shock absorbers as well as semi-elliptical rear leaf springs and Girling hydraulic rear shock absorbers. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drums.

The cabin features split bucket seats trimmed in red leather upholstery complemented by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Burl wood trim accents the dash as well as the A-pillars and upper doors. Amenities include a heater, a slide-out storage tray, a lockable glovebox, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, door-mounted map pockets, and quarter-vent windows.

A four-spoke steering wheel fronts centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer was reset upon completion of the build and now shows 9 miles.

The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six was factory equipped with dual SU carburetors and rated at 160 horsepower when new.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox that was rebuilt as part of the restoration process.

A collection of accessories including owner’s and service manuals as well as a tool roll will accompany the car.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate notes a July 22, 1953, date of manufacture and lists factory colors along with initial delivery through Hornburg in Los Angeles, California.

Engine number W93588 appears on the chassis tag as well as the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

The Indiana title lists the model year as 1954 and carries an “Exempt” odometer brand.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
