This 1953 Jaguar XK120 is a Fixed Head Coupe that was acquired by the seller from its original owner in Chicago in 1963, and was relocated two years later to California, where it has remained since. The car is finished in black over red leather upholstery and powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 16″ body color steel wheels, a split front windshield, rear fender skirts, burl wood trim, lap belts, and Smiths gauges. This XK120 is now offered with a Jaguar Trust Heritage Certificate, partial service records, spare parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car came finished from the factory in black and was repainted around 1965. Exterior details include a split front windshield, tripod headlights, and rear fender skirts, as well as a chrome front bumper, rear bumperettes, and dual fender-mounted mirrors. The right-front fender and the brake lights wiring were repaired in September 2012. There is rust around both rear bumperettes. Other blemishes are shown in the gallery along with paint meter readings taken from around the body.
Body-color 16″ steel wheels with Jaguar-branded hubcaps are mounted with 185-series Pirelli Cinturato tires. The car was factory equipped with an independent front suspension with telescopic-type hydraulic shock absorbers as well as semi-elliptical rear leaf springs and Girling hydraulic rear shock absorbers. The wheel cylinders and front brake shoes were replaced in 2012. In preparation for the sale, the brake shoes and drums were burnished, the right-front shoe and drum were reglazed, and the right-front brake wheel was replaced.
The interior was reupholstered in 1965 and features red leather seats with lap belts along with a burl wood dashboard and door trim. The driver’s carpet is worn.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The tachometer was repaired in September 2012. The five-digit odometer has rolled over once and shows 12k miles. Approximately 60k miles have been added by the seller.
The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six was factory rated at 160 horsepower. The cylinder head was rebuilt and the dual SU carburetors were overhauled in September 2012. In March 2026, the carburetors were serviced, the spark plugs were replaced, and the oil was changed.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows factory colors and serial numbers along with a build date of March 4, 1953.
The car is titled using engine number W7714-8, shown on the cylinder head above as well as on the engine block in the gallery. A corresponding number is listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and on the chassis plate.
