Offered for sale in the Jag Lovers classifieds:

French XK 140 roadster build in January 1955 but sold on november 1956: Strange, no?
Chassis: A810905
Engine: G6413-8s
It was always the dream of my dad...and he says:" For my fifthy's birthday, I would like a big toy, an XK Roadster..." And so I did search for his Present...(I didn't buy myself!).We've seen many XK, a wonderfull white 120 Coupe( but unpossible to drive...to short!), a maroon 140 OTS ( it was some works to do on the car...and on an XK it could be very expensive!)...I did wait a little Time and found this from somebody in France who's is owning five other XK! He really love the XK's... This XK was restored in 1998,it took 8 long months...but the result is so nice!
We did only drive 150 km with our XK, because she did arrive home (I'm living in Belgium) for three weeks, and I'm really falling in love with this car!

1956 JAGUAR XK 140 OPEN TWO SEATER - Lot 13

Restauration ancienne de qualité Culasse Type C Matching numbers Titre de circulation belge Châssis n° : A810 905 - Moteur : G6413 – 8S Carrosserie : F10915

The XK 140 that we are presenting is an Open Two Seater roadster which received the rare and desirable Special Equipment option when it left the factory. Built at the end of 1955 (this is the 905th XK 140 OTS to roll off the line), it was sold new in the United States in 1956, where it spent most of its life. It was imported to France in the mid-1990s, with two similar examples, by an amateur who undertook to completely restore all three. A large file of photos bears witness to the stripping of the body and chassis and the complete refurbishment of the whole. The car was finished in 1998, and sold to its current owner, Belgian, two years later, in February 2000. He used it regularly until today, participating in a few rallies (including the Rallye des Légendes), while providing it with ongoing maintenance (€8,000 in invoices paid between 2000 and 2018 accompany the car file). Just before sale, the car benefited from a brake adjustment. Without being a “competition”, the painting still presents well for a 20-year restoration. The interior is also in good condition; we will simply note that the dashboard covering is peeling off at the level of the meters. The soft top, side screens and tonneau cover are in perfect condition. And the test we did proved particularly conclusive. The engine is very efficient, the brakes efficient, and the Moss gearbox very docile. This pretty roadster, elegantly patinated and in perfect working order, halfway between the sporty XK 120 and the “big” XK 150, will appeal to fans of the genre.

“New engine, 5-speed gearbox, power steering, stainless steel exhaust… What else?”

Our example was delivered via Max Hoffman in New York in February 1955 in red with a black leather interior. In 1998, it arrived in France with an enthusiast who had it completely restored: bodywork, upholstery, engine, gearbox, and axle. The latter sold it in 2000 to a Belgian enthusiast who kept it until 2021. It was in that year that the current owner, a collector of English cars for 35 years, acquired it. Between 2023 and 2024, more than €25,000 will be invested at Département Classic for the complete overhaul of the engine, the installation of a 5-speed gearbox, power steering, and a stainless steel exhaust, for the upgrade of the braking system, and the replacement of the wire wheels and the convertible top for a mohair one...

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
