This 1956 Jaguar XK140 MC roadster came specified in Arbor Green over Suede Green leather and is said to have remained with its prior owner for five decades. It was taken off the road in the early 2000s and was refurbished after being acquired by the seller out of California in 2023. Work included a repaint, a reupholstered interior, a rebuild of the engine, and an overhaul of the suspension along with installation of a five-speed manual transmission, front disc brakes, a front sway bar, and an alternator. The car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six, and equipment includes a removable Sand soft top, 16″ wire wheels, Lucas driving lights, and adjustable seats. This XK140 is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, the owner’s manual, refurbishment records, the removed four-speed manual gearbox and other spare parts, a car cover, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
The car came finished from the factory in Arbor Green and received a single-stage repaint during the aforementioned refurbishment, at which time dents and rust were repaired. A replacement Sand soft top was also added and the rear bumpers were replaced. Additional equipment includes Lucas PL halogen tri-bar headlamps, Lucas driving lights, and a badge bar.
Replacement 16″ wire wheels are secured with two-eared knockoffs and are mounted with 185R16 Michelin X tires. A 7/8″ front sway bar and Wilwood front disc brakes were added during the refurbishment, and additional work involved rebuilding the brake master cylinder, installing GAZ shocks, and replacing the ball joints and other suspension components.
The adjustable seats were re-trimmed in Suede Green leather, and matching upholstery extends to the dash, arm rest, handbrake boot, and door pulls. The removable side curtains were also refurbished, and relays were added for the horn, headlights, and driving lights.
The Moto-Lita wood-rimmed four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation that was overhauled during the refurbishment, consisting of a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and an ammeter alongside gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 66k miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership.
The 3.4-liter inline-six featured dual SU carburetors from the factory for a rating of 220 horsepower, and it was rebuilt during the refurbishment. An alternator was installed in place of the factory generator, and an electric cooling fan and spin-on oil filter were also added. Oil leaks are noted from the front and rear main seals.
Cylinder head stamping G6790-8S is shown above, and a corresponding number is listed on the Heritage Trust certificate.
A Tremec five-speed manual transmission was installed during the refurbishment. The exhaust manifold was ceramic coated, and a Bell stainless-steel dual exhaust system was added.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists the factory colors and serial numbers along with a build date of January 25, 1956.
The removed gearbox and other parts will accompany the vehicle.
Photos of the vehicle during various stages of the restoration are included.
