Restored in 1989 to DHC spec using an original 150 hood. Still owned and used by me after 35 years.
Recently had a professional major refresh of bodywork including new metal and bare metal respray in Carmen Red. Always immaculately maintained.

Following a comprehensive professional restoration completed in 2024, it now stands as an exceptionally well-sorted and highly attractive example.

History & Ownership

Built in May 1958 and delivered new through Parkers of Bolton, the car was first registered on 2nd August 1958. Originally supplied as a Fixed Head Coupé, it was professionally converted during an earlier restoration using correct XK150 Drophead Coupé bodywork, including a genuine factory hood frame sourced by the vendor.

The ownership story is particularly impressive.

Exterior

The quality of the restoration is immediately apparent. Panel fit, shut lines and paint finish are all described by the owner as being of an exceptionally high standard.

Correct Drophead Coupé bodywork and hood assembly

Chrome wire wheels

Superb chrome and exterior brightwork throughout

Functional fresh-air vents and front fog lamps

Cavity wax treatment completed in 2024

Particular highlights include the iconic XK grille, Jaguar leaper and the exceptionally straight bodywork that characterises a properly restored XK.

Interior

The cabin is beautifully presented and trimmed in rich red leather with contrasting white piping.

Deep red leather upholstery with white piping

Walnut dashboard and cubby box veneers

Excellent Smiths instrumentation

Four-spoke steering wheel

Seat belts fitted

Driver's sun visor and quarter-light mirror

The condition of the leather, carpets and woodwork reflects the quality of the restoration and ongoing care lavished upon the car.

Recent expenditure includes:

New clutch fitted in April 2026

New oil pump and crankshaft bearings fitted in April 2026

New steering rack, track rod ends and steering column universal joint

Exhaust manifolds replaced in April 2026

The accompanying paperwork demonstrates continuous maintenance by respected Jaguar specialist ‘Stephen Heywood’, with no indication that expenditure has ever been deferred.

Our vendor notes “The car came to me with a 3.4L engine from a Mark 8 Jaguar, which was being manufactured around the same time as they were producing the 150.”

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
