This 1958 example is a particularly appealing prospect. It is an original UK-supplied, right-hand-drive car with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate that has undergone a comprehensive nine-year restoration, encompassing both body and mechanicals, with renewed brightwork, fresh panels, and a rebuilt engine among the highlights.

The vendor describes it as a very usable car that will put a smile on your face, and we're very much inclined to agree; pure Jaguar magic from the marque's golden age.

The vendor tells us there are "one or two small paint imperfections and the door hinge pins are worn"

The Mechanics

3,400cc straight-six petrol engine

4-speed manual transmission

Engine bay in fine condition

Believed to be factory-standard spec

The engine was rebuilt in 1995 but has covered only 5000 miles since the body restoration approximately 6 years ago

The gearbox was completely rebuilt last year

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
