Car to be at RM auction 8/08
rmsothebys.com/auctions/mo08/lots/r301-1961-jaguar-xk-150-38litre-fixed-head-cou ...
Auction description:
1961 Jaguar XK 150 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe
Sports & Classics of Monterey 2008, Lot 428
Estimate:
$150,000-$200,000 US
Chassis No. S836510BW
$181,500 USD | Sold
The handsome XK 150 offered here has benefited from a spectacular frame-off restoration that was completed in 2008 and is beautifully finished in Claret with original wire wheels, painted to match, and a red maroon interior. It is equipped with the optional 3.8-liter engine, which has been upgraded to 150S specifications with triple SU carburetors, an “S” air cleaner, T-5 five-speed transmission, a stainless steel exhaust and other performance enhancements including a battery cutoff and tender when in storage. The engine was also fitted with 9:1 high compression pistons with performance machining for high speed driving and handling. Absolutely no expense was spared on this Jaguar and it is truly an excellent show-quality vehicle that performs and handles superbly.
The most refined of the XK series, the XK 150 evolved from its origins as an all-out sports car to become a refined grand tourer. With its classic lines, spectacular Jaguar color combination, and “S” upgrades, this example embodies classic Jaguar elegance and performance and, equally notable, is one of just 656 XK 150 Fixed Head Coupes originally fitted with the larger 3.8-liter engine. A spectacular example finished in a very unique original color combination, it was produced in the final year of the glorious XK era and remains a fabulous driver, ready for showing, thanks to a no-expense-spared restoration, executed to very high standards.
