This 1958 Jaguar XK150 Drophead Coupe was sold to its first owner in Sarasota, Florida, in late 1958 and is said to have suffered an engine failure in the late 1960s and sat parked until its acquisition by the seller’s father circa 1973. The car is noted to have subsequently undergone suspension and brake work in 1981, rebuilds of its 3.4-liter inline-six and three-speed automatic transmission in 1984, a repaint in 2005, and an interior re-trim between 2007 and 2011. It is now described as a running project that requires a replacement soft top as well as brake service. Finished in British Racing Green over brown leather, it features Lucas driving lights and SU carburetors along with adjustable seats. This XK150 is offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, spare parts, and a Pennsylvania title in the name of the seller’s mother.

The car left the factory finished in British Racing Green and was repainted circa 2005, according to the seller. Features include Lucas driving lights as well as a one-piece windshield, fender-mounted mirrors, and full-width chrome bumpers with overriders. The seller notes that bodywork and rust repair was performed at the time of the repaint and reports that the frame for the tan soft top is broken.

The 16″ knock-off wire wheels are secured by two-ear knock-offs mounted with 205/80 Michelin 4X4 tires. A spare wheel with an older Firestone whitewall tire is stored under the trunk floor. Work in 1981 is reported to have involved servicing the suspension and four-wheel disc brakes as well as rebuilding the wheels. The brakes are not functioning.

The cabin houses adjustable seats trimmed in brown leather which extends to the dash as well as the door panels. Further appointments include wind-up side windows, door storage pockets, and a folding rear bulkhead. The seller notes that the interior work between 2007 and 2011 included re-covering the seats, dash, and doors along with replacing the headliner and carpets. A stain in the carpet is visible behind the driver’s seat, and the installed radio and cabin heater do not work.

The cracked four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of centrally mounted instrumentation consisting of a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock as well as a 140-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges from Smiths in addition to a Lucas ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 62k miles, approximately 30k of which have been added under current family ownership.

The seller tells us that the 3.4-liter inline-six was damaged prior to their father’s acquisition of the car in 1975 and that the unit was later rebuilt using a crankshaft from a donor engine as part of the aforementioned 1984 rebuild. A replacement wiring harness was reportedly fitted in 1993. The engine breathes through dual SU carburetors fitted with aftermarket air cleaners.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a BorgWarner three-speed automatic transmission that is said to have been rebuilt at the time of the engine work. The seller notes leaks from the water pump and transmission.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers. It also notes a September 21, 1958, build date as well as initial sale to the first owner in Sarasota, Florida.

The current Pennsylvania title lists Antique Vehicle and Out of Country brands.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
