There is a very interesting article in Jaguar Driver magazine March 2001 written by the then owner Allan Harris of Shropshire,UK.

He gives details of its competition history in Europe and the Far East in the hands of its first owner, Jim Atkinson and he then relates

the story of how he came to purchase the car from Wolfgang Stamm Germany.

    Car now offered at:

    Seller's description:

1950 Jaguar XK120 Original Alloy Roadster

Chassis Number 660055. This car was built on the 1st March 1950 and is one of only 57 right hand drive Alloy Roadsters built and has its original UK Coventry registration JWK 377 that is close to the works team cars. The original owner was Captain Jim Atkinson who raced and rallied the car extensively over the ensuing years. There is a fascinating history file that contains many photos of the car racing in the early days of its life. Captain Atkinson kept the XK until his death in 1986. The present owner bought it in 2000 and set about a total restoration. The engine was rebuilt by Les Trafford, body restoration by John Brown of Leaping Cats and paintwork by Steve Grimsley of Phoenix Restoration. Most of the detail work and assembly was undertaken by John May of XK Developments. This is an exceptional example of a rare XK120 and is supplied with a complete history file of owners from new and many early photos plus a complete photographic record of its restoration with a folder full of invoices. If you are interested in this motorcar please come and view and go throughout the extensive history file. £425,000

… and the price is a trifling £250,000 too much. Ridiculous.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
