The important part of the text:
The judge granted Mr Tynan a declaration that he was the de facto owner of ZL 5171, a 1951 Jaguar XK 120, chassis number 660111 and was entitled to possession of the car and to be the registered owner. She awarded costs against Quinn and dismissed a counter claim by him that he was the rightful owner.

An interesting article. In it one of the lawyers told the court that the car had been shipped in crates to Ireland in 1951 and assembled there by a Dublin company. I thought that there were 2 batches of cars sent to Eire as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits, but both these batches were later in the production run. Is this a one-off earlier CKD car? The XK Data entry seems to suggest that the car was exported to Ohio, USA. Can anyone shed any light on the history? Was ZL 5171 the original registration? Has it ever been to the USA?

Philip Porter in his book Original Jaguar XK states that 660111 was an experimental car, completed in Jan 1951; no further information.
I think the XK Data reference to Ohio, USA is possibly incorrect. Has there been a mix-up between Dublin, Ohio, USA and Dublin, Eire?

certainly the car was initially allocated to the exp dept but was then transferred to the 1951 list of cars.
It was delivered it would appear as a standard car with standard paint and trim (Pastel Green Metallic / Suede Green / French Grey) on the 18th April 1951 to Frank Cavey the first owner name is not that legible could be Mrs XXXXX.
There is certainly no mention of it being CKD and is probably extremely unlikely it was given it left factory fully painted and trimmed.
Given import restrictions/taxes for cars to Eire maybe it was being examined as to the possibility but no-one will probably know the exact situation

indication that the USA bit is wrong is the fact that the engine number listed above W1323-8 is not the correct number for this car. It is W1294-7.
Of interest is that the body number is about 300 numbers later than chassis number indicates it should be indicating it was assembled later ie a later body fitted to the chassis 660111

I think the suggestion that this was a CKD car sold to Cavey in Ireland can be discounted. The initial allocation to 'Experimental' raises the question of whether Jaguar was working on how to supply these cars in CKD form - but those cars noted in factory records as CKD to Cavey (660742-660747, 660804-660809) were specifically stated to be CKD, and, importantly here, had no record made of the body colour - obviously shipped unpainted (unlike 660111 - Pastel Green).
