    1950 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster

Right Hand Drive: Chassis No. 660170

Our beautiful example has been owned by the same family since 1990. Last year the XK120 underwent a thorough body restoration and mechanical restoration by one of the UK's leading Jaguar restoration companies. The body was stripped and repaired before being repainted in Old English White, interior was reconnolised, and new overmats and boot carpet were installed. The engine and gearbox were already in excellent condition and required no major work. The carburettors were cleaned and rebuilt. The front brakes were converted to discs, and the rest of the brake system was renewed. The clutch hydraulics were also renewed and new chromed wire wheels and new tyres were fitted. The result is a beautifully detailed visually impressive car which drives superbly.

A substantial history file accompanies the car together with a workshop manual and invoices for the above restoration works totalling some £55,000.00. A superb opportunity to acquire a well sorted and near concours XK120 Roaster at £89,995.00 which represents superb value for money for an example in such splendid condition.

    Car listed as sold at:

    jagxk.com/showroom/jaguar/jaguar-xk120-ots-rhd-1950-for-sale

    Seller's description:

The car remained in Australia up until the late 1980s when the then owner, a Mr Hall, shipped the car to the UK when he moved. Mr Hall worked for Coca Cola South Pacific and then went on to become Vice President of Coca Cola Europe so it seems safe to assume this is the reason for his move. During the 1980s Mr Hall spent much time and money on the car and entering it into concourse events in the Sydney area winning several awards. It is hardly surprising then that he wanted to ship his pride and joy to the UK with him.

In 2011, still in Mr Halls possession, the car underwent extensive restoration work. This included a full respray and retrim along with much mechanical work. After close to 30 years of ownership Mr Hall sold the XK120 and it made its way into the hands of its current owner.

In 2015 the car came here to Twyford Moors for an extensive series of improvements and upgrades. Every aspect of the mechanical and electrical systems of the car were gone though and repaired or improved as required. With this work complete the car boasts a very impressive specification including a five-speed gearbox, telescopic shock absorber upgrade, polyurethane suspension bushed, aluminium fuel tank, alternator, electric cooling fan, electric power steering and much more. This XK120 has been built to be driven. It is a true joy out on the road and with the above suite of upgrades would make a very reliable car for touring. £89,750

    Early ‘no vent’ car

    Sensible driver focused upgrades

Manufactured in August 1950, this XK120 Roadster is one of the earliest XK’s built in steel after the factory moved away from aluminium over an ash frame. Notable features indicating this as an early car include the separate chrome side lights, the lack of wing vents, the early ‘studless’ cam cover engine and tall carburettor dashpots. Built at the Browns Lane Jaguar factory in Coventry, the accompanying letter from Jaguar Heritage confirms that the car was sold directly and shipped to Brylaw Motors of Melbourne, Australia. The car remained in Australia up until the late 1980’s when the owner, a Mr. Hall shipped the car back to the UK when his job for Coca-Cola took him from the South Pacific region to Europe. He later went on to become Vice President of Coca-Cola in Europe and presumably, this influenced the decision to move.

The car boasts an impressive specification including a five-speed gearbox, telescopic shock absorber upgrade, polyurethane suspension bushes, aluminium fuel tank, electric Kenlow cooling fan, adjustable electric power steering, aluminium sports bucket seats, Brooklands wind deflectors, recessed Monza style fuel filler cap, bonnet strap and bonnet louvres. To add to all this, the car has also benefitted from recently being repainted to a high level in British Racing Green and retrimmed in tan leather. The vendor reports the car to run and drive very well and is only offered for sale to fund a new acquisition.

Supplied with a V5C registration document and file of receipts amongst other information. The Roadster version of the beautiful XK120 has always been the most coveted of the XK120 line up and to find such an early car with subtle, but practical modifications is a rare find. Consigned by Will Penrose.
