First registered in January of 1951, chassis 259 was bought by the current owner from Coys' Kensington Showrooms in 1989, and has remained in his custodianship ever since. Our vendor, a serious collector of important race and road cars from the 1930s to the current day, has stored the Jaguar very carefully and driven it lightly in his ownership.

The condition of the car is quite remarkable; the body panels are straight with very good gaps, the doors fit well, and the fabulous original interior displays a wonderful patina. The engine and chassis numbers have been checked and match, and the Jaguar has been granted a recent MoT certificate.

All in all a fantastically well-preserved example of one of the most significant sports cars of the post-war era, and we genuinely feel an unrepeatable opportunity.

Acquired by me last October. The original owner was Formula 3 racer David Norman Brake who competed with FDP at Boreham Circuit on 1st April 1951.Tragically he became the first driver to be killed in Formula 3 when he rolled his Cooper Norton at Boreham on 11th August 1951. The previous owner to me was Hugh Taylor who acquired FDP in 1989. At Fine Art America I found a Drawing of FDP done by artist Alberto Schlossberg who lives in Argentina. FDP has only covered 400 miles in the last 30 years and the total recorded mileage is 4600 miles. Schlossberg records a sighting of FDP in Chelsea, Michigan with the car on its original English plates but I have no record of the car ever being exported. Perhaps it was taking part in a rally. Does anyone know where FDP 293 was between 1951 and 1989? .

This early home market steel bodied car, chassis 660259, was supplied new in January 1951 to David Brake who was making a name for himself in Formula 3 mixing it with the likes of Eric Brandon and Stirling Moss. By April the new 120 was pressed into service and appeared at the West Essex Car Club Speed trial at Boreham. However, tragedy struck in August that year when Brake was killed at the wheel of his Cooper Norton whilst racing at that circuit.

The virtually unused 120 was then retained by the Brake family until the eighties when sold to a prominent collector, the late Hugh Taylor with a recorded mileage of under 5000. Kept in ideal conditions this remarkable XK covered under 500 miles over the next three decades. Now showing 5,263mls it remains in wonderfully original condition but has recently benefitted from a new alloy petrol tank and radiator. Both of the originals have been retained. The hood too has been replaced by the respected Tom Hampton who observed that it was the most original XK he has ever worked on !

This outstanding XK120 combines all the important elements – superb condition, unparalleled originality and excellent provenance.

C J Austin acquired car from P Rae October 2023 via Pendine Historic and advised by Guy Broad. Car is still in exceptionally original patinated condition with less than 6000 original miles. Bodywork in black shows superb shut lines and alignment with no rust or repairs.
