Overview
Given that right-hand drive XK120 Roadster production began at chassis number '660001' and is thought to have accounted for just 609 units, this particular example - chassis number '660405' - would appear to be an early steel-bodied car. Bought by the vendor at auction in Autumn 1997, its "only previously recorded owner" was a Mr Steel of St Pauls Cray, Kent. Though, its 'AEN 482' registration number suggests that it was first registered in Bury, Lancashire. Treated to an extensive restoration in 1998 by former 1960s Jaguar E-type racer and marque specialist Tony Shaw of Thruxton Airfield, Andover (including an engine rebuild, interior retrim, front disc brake upgrade etc), it has apparently covered a mere 1,600 miles during the intervening seven years. Finished in red with two-tone brown / buff leather upholstery, its four-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, chassis, bodywork and steel wheels / tyres are now rated as "good", while its paintwork is held to be "very good". Said to need "manually priming from cold", this delightful Jaguar is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until 21st April 2006 and historic class (free) road tax until 31st March 2006.

With a total ground-up body/chassis/mechanical restoration in the 1990's (that included a sensible servo-assisted front disc brake conversion) this early XK 120 has mellowed beautifully over the intervening years, covering just 7,000 miles since the work was completed.
The full weather equipment (tailored hood, side-screens and tonneau, all in black mohair) has hardly been employed so it is eminently useable as practical day-to-day transport, with fresh M.O.T. and which has already competed in European rallies etc., for which it has FIVA Historic I/D papers.
Recently acquired from highly respected Jaguar specialists JD Classics it is absolutely ready to be enjoyed for another 62 years!

Now back to correct (manually adjusted) front brakes, disc wheels and spats. Dash tidied up and returned to original appearance with the exception of post-WW2 Spitfire switch for electric choke cut-off! All lights now LED. with sidelights/indicators within the original light housings.

I've just acquired an ENV 3.27 axle from Sweden, where it has been sitting undisturbed in storage for 43 years. This will be replacing the 3.64 one which AEN 482 has had from new, for more relaxed highway cruising. This 3.27 has very low serial numbers: No 507, JHS 1. My research into the subject of ENV axles suggests that this may have been the very first 3.27 axle built, though probably not the first ENV ofthis type.

This had the effect of dropping the revs to something like 4500 at 120pmh, instead of just over 5000. As the serial number JHS 1 suggests it is very early, coud it have once been fitted to #660002, I wonder...?? But, then - how on earth did it end up in Sweden?? We will probably never know, as apparently Jaguar didn't keep a record of axle serial numbers. Although, I suppose it's conceivable they might have done so for the very early cars... Perhaps someone out there knows about such things?
