    Car on offer at:
    www.hiltonandmoss.com/vehicle_information.php

    Sellers description:
    Jaguar XK120 4.2 Special Roadster
    Year: 1952 | Price: £89,950

Chassis number 660496 is a most special, desirable and historically important XK120 having been previously owned and campaigned by the automotive artist Dexter Brown. Dexter acquired the car in 1967 at the young age of just twenty five years old and built the car into the Ecurie Ecosse Blue record breaking car that you see here. The car was fitted with an E Type 4.2 engine with gas flowed head, bigger valves, racing crankshaft, high lift cams and a gas flowed head taking the power up to a heady 290bhp. Dexter Brown campaigned the car extensively during this period including recording standing quarter mile time of just 15.06 seconds at the Brighton Speed Trials. However, the greatest achievement was at the Ghent Speed Trials in 1970 where the car ran the flying kilometre at a record speed of 153.5mph and also achieving ftd at the same event. This is an exceptionally quick XK120 that delivers the same pleasure and excitement today as it did in period.

There is serious discussion among respected experts about whether this is 660496 OR 660946. Both claim
the link with Dexter Brown as can be read on this website. No firm conclusions either way

This car is chassis number 660946 and is detailed elsewhere on this site. I owned 660496 back in the eighties, registered NAU 660. These days it is being campaigned in various historic race series. 660496 was despatched on January 8 1951 to Truman's in Nottingham, first owner Peter Trabor, finished in Suede Green outside and in. Original engine number was W2769-7 but had been changed by the time I owned it

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
