Auction description:
Lot 701: 1953 Jaguar XK120 Roadster
Collectors' Motor Cars, Bonhams (10th September 2005)
Overview
This car’s accompanying Statement of Build, issued by Jaguar Cars Limited, confirms that is a matching-numbers example built in November 1953 and sold directly to the home market. The vehicle has been in the same ownership since 1990, having previously been thoroughly renovated, and has hardly been used since acquisition, covering only some 500-or-so miles in the past 15 years. Attractively finished in silver with red leather interior, it is offered with MoT to December 2005 and Swansea V5.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
