See "Jaguar XK Series-The Complete Story" by Jeremy Boyce in the colour photo section for a photograph of this car in un-restored condition-very tatty. Caption says car bought in 1966 for £50 and used everyday for seven years.

I am pretty cartain that the car was fitted with a 3.8 unit.

Your comment Jeremy on the 3.8 engine. Where did you get that info from?

I haven’t checked but it did go like hell on the trip to Southhampton docks.

Maybe your right, I will have a closer look.

    Jeff.

Jeremy, casting on engine block 3 1/2 ltr. So not 3.8.

    Jeff.

Hmm. As I remember, bearing in mind this was some 48 years ago, the owner said he had fitted a 3.8 lump. However, it is true that he was prone to self-aggrandisement porky pies.

Jeremy, I guess it may have had a 3.8 in its racing days but whoever it was wasn’t all bad cos he must have kept the original 3.4. Someone then stuck it back in.

Thanks for the chrome ‘B’ post trim pieces, all re-chromed and fitted. Car on the road.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
