Additional information from the H&H '97 auction:
This is a rare original right hand drive 1953 Jaguar XK120 drophead. Probably one of the most desirable cars ever produced and certainly a veritable milestone in motoring history.
It has only had three owners from new, the last one for twenty years, and there is a fairly comprehensinve history on the vehicle including 23 old M.O.T. certificates, the original Brown logbook, green logbook and the V5. The car was taken off the road on its return from Le mans in 1988 and a full rebuild programme started in July of last year. Over 3000 man hours and in excess of ú45000 have been spent on returning this car to its present show standard and the warranty from the restoration company is transferable to the new owner.
There is far too much to list all the work done but even the underside of the car has been sandblasted, zinc primed, then primed and undersealed as the factory finish - you can therefore only imagine what the rest of the car is like! The engine was rebuilt about 14000 miles ago and the mileage now shown is correct since the rebuild.
The body is painted in dark Opalescent Blue and the interior trim is finished in Saville Grey with a dark Blue Mohair hood and hood bag. This car must be one of the very best available and don't forget - it is not a converted car it is an original right hand drive U.K. car.

My father owned this car until the early/mid 1970s. When he had it originally it was in dark green (British Racing) but I think there were traces of other colours underneath this. He had it repainted in a pale blue. It was a very attractive car then and from the comments above it has not suffered from any lack of care and attention. I guess that somewhere I may have other records of it such as photographs of the changes to it whilst in my father's posession, and possibly some notes that he made.

car now back on Auction at Imperial War Museum Duxford: www.classic-auctions.com/Auctions/20-04-2016-ImperialWarMuseumDuxford-1413/1953J ...

Description:

We are delighted to offer this rare original right-hand drive XK120 Drophead Coupe which pleasingly still retains its original registration mark. Manufactured on 30th September 1953, NYX 876 was despatched to supplying dealer Henlys of London in October that year. Probably one of the most desirable cars ever produced and certainly a veritable milestone in motoring history, this example was treated to a no expense spared restoration some 20 years ago.

A detailed history file accompanies the car which includes a JDHT Certificate, Jaguar build sheet, numerous old M.O.T. certificates dating from 1968, original Brown RF60 logbook, assorted invoices, correspondence, restoration work summary and a photograph album showing stages of the restoration work. The car was taken off the road on its return from a trip to Le Mans in 1988 and subsequently treated to a comprehensive restoration in the mid-1990s. Over 3000 man hours and in excess of £45,000 are understood to have been spent on it. Even the underside of the car was sandblasted, zinc primed, then primed and undersealed as the factory finish. The body is painted in dark Opalescent Blue and the interior trim is finished in Saville Grey with a dark Blue Mohair hood. Upgrades include a 5 speed gearbox making the car extremely useable - indeed during the current ownership it has toured as far afield as the USA and Europe.

Offered with a number of spares including its 4 speed gearbox, spats, steering wheel, disc wheels and suspension parts etc. this wonderfully mellowed XK is expected to be offered with a fresh MoT and is accompanied by a Swansea V5 document.
