DVV200 is quite possibly one of the most desirable XK120’s available in terms of competition history and ownership. Racing legend Jack Sears would be the first owner of DVV200 and would campaign the car extensively from 1954 from Goodwood to Snetterton, proving to be a top running car in nearly every event. The car would then move to Peter and Michael Sargent before being purchased by the current owner in 2003. DVV200 would be kept in dry storage virtually unmolested and its history preserved. It wasn’t until 2018 when the current owner desired to see DVV on the track once again. The car would be brought to CKL Developments to be race prepared for the 2018 Goodwood Revival Fordwater Trophy and demonstrated in action by our own Chris Keith-Lucas.

Goodwood Revival

Collector's Motor Cars and Automobilia

Lot 247

The ex-Jack Sears

1954 Jaguar XK120 Coupé

Registration no. DVV 200

Chassis no. S669125

*Driven by Jack Sears throughout the 1954 season

*One of only 194 right-hand drive XK120 fixed-head coupés built

*Present ownership since 2003

*£30,000 spent on mechanical recommissioning the engine in the last 12 months

*Fordwater Trophy participant

One of only 194 right-hand drive XK120 fixed-head coupés built, this example was bought new by famous racing driver the late Jack Sears, who would go on to win the inaugural British Saloon Car Championship in 1958 and regain the title in 1963, in addition to drives for the BMC Works, Tommy Sopwith's Equipe Endeavour, Willment and Maranello Concessionaires teams, the latter who he drove for at Le Mans. Driven by him in the RAC Rally and at Goodwood, Snetterton, and various hill climb venues, the XK comes with a detailed list of Jack's results for 1954. 'DVV 200' is mentioned and pictured in Sears' biography, Gentleman Jack, and has appeared in numerous other publications devoted to the marque, including The Jaguar XKs by Paul Skilleter and Original Jaguar XK by Philip Porter.

In the 1970s, 'DVV 200' was bought another notable racing driver and Le Mans competitor, by Peter Sargent and his brother Michael. Michael Sargent did not race the XK but owned it for some 20-plus years. Subsequently 'DVV 200' had one owner – Brian Perring, who acquired the car in 2000 – before passing to the current vendor in 2003, so has been sold only twice in the last 40-plus years.

While in the vendor's care, the XK has benefited from over £30,000 spent on the mechanical recommissioning engine over the last 12 months with renowned marque specialists CKL Developments Ltd. Noteworthy features include 2" sand-cast SU carburettors, D-Type cams, and 9.1 compression ratio a high-torque starter motor. The original Moss gearbox and drum brakes are retained, as is the original 'sprint' rear axle (a standard (rebuilt) rear axle is also included in the sale). Accompanying documentation includes an old-style logbook, sundry invoices dating back to the 1970's, a Heritage Certificate, MoT history, a V5C Registration Certificate, current FIA papers, and numerous period photographs, some signed by Jack Sears.

'DVV 200' Raced in the Fordwater Trophy event at the Goodwood Revival in 2018 and is surely going to be a welcome invitee in the future.

£30,000 spent on the engine in the last twelve months? What's it got under the bonnet - a Ferrari V-12 ? Nuts.

Car now offered at:

Seller's description:

We are pleased to be able to offer you one of the most significant Jaguar XK.

Jaguar XK120 SE FHC, ex Jack Sears, registration number DVV 200

A total of 12,056 Jaguar XK120s were built (FHC, OTS and DHC).

The coupe variant of the Jaguar XK120 was manufactured 2,678 times (194 RHD, 2,484 LHD).

Just under a third of the Jaguar XK120s built were ordered with the more powerful SE option.

Jaguar XK120 with standard engine: 8,254 units

Jaguar XK120 with the more powerful SE engine: 3,792 units.

At the special request of a customer, Jaguar delivered 26 vehicles with a particularly high-compression and even more powerful engine.

These 26 vehicles had the so-called -9S engine.

According to Jaguar Heritage, the DVV 200 is:

1 of 26 Jaguar XK120 SE (all body styles) with a -9S engine

1 of 12 Jaguar XK120 SE FHC (LHD and RHD) with a -9S engine

1 of 1 Jaguar XK120 SE FHC RHD with a -9S engine

DVV 200 was bought new by racing legend Jack Sears. Jack Sears used his Jaguar XK120 SE FHC, DVV 200 in the 1954 season at a total of eight racing events (including RAC Rally, Goodwood, Snetterton). In seven of the eight races, Jack Sears took a podium place with DVV 200.

In the 1970s the ex Jack Sears Jaguar XK120 came into the ownership of Peter & Michael Sargent. Peter Sargent was also an outstanding racing driver (e.g. sports car world championship in Jaguar C-Type, D-Type & E-Type, Lister Costin, ...; 3x 24h Le Mans). Peter & Michael Sargent sold DVV 200 to Francis in 2000 after many years of ownership Perring.

The last owner bought the Jaguar XK120 in 2003.

DVV 200 has been cherished and cared for by its owners over the years. The vehicle is presented in a condition worth seeing and impresses with its very good, original substance. Technically, the Jaguar XK120 SE FHC is absolutely top and ready to use.

DVV 200 was invited to the 2018 Goodwood Revival (Fordwater Trophy).

The vehicle was prepared for the Goodwood Revival at the top address CLK Developments. Corresponding invoices for over 30,000 GBP are available.

DVV 200 is, of course, featured in Jack Sear's biography Gentlemen Jack, as well as in Paul Skilleter's The Jaguar XK's, Philip Porter's Original Jaguar XK and Dr. James Fraser mentioned and illustrated.

Numerous documents are available for the vehicle (heritage certificate, books, photos, invoices, ...).

FIA papers (valid until 2028) are also present.

Due to the exceptional historical value, DVV 200 is particularly suitable for participation in the absolute top events such as Mille Miglia and Goodwood Revival.
