Only 17 of all alloy roadsters were produced to this specification, considered by many as the archetypal and most desirable, therefore this ultra rare left hand drive alloy bodied roadster represents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire one of these coveted cars.

    Comments are intended to help, and not a criticizm. You car is five after mine (l.h.d.) and looks better than mine, which has not been restored. I could not find 17 cars with a specific specification, unless this refers to optional extras. Would be interested to learn details, Engine number on these early cars follow no logical sequence, even taking into account that r.h.d. cars were produced simultaneously (although many fewer), I suspect they picked any engine out of a line of engines being built, that was complete. C3659(page 44) Tail pipe should appear under l.h.r. mudguard, not at rear. I installed complete stainless system, for obvious reasons. BD3442 p.58 Grab rail seems to be missing. C2431 to 6 p. 10 cabbles should exit head at rear, and include C2451 p.10 conduit, and also C2454 p.10 clips and 3204 Grommet p.10A. C2887 p.49 Mirror (short stem) seems to be missing. It's not clear from the ´photo, but C168 p.10 Thermostat should be on underside of C2378 Elbow p.9

    Classic Showcase is pleased to offer one of the rarest classic Jaguars available in the world today, the Alloy-bodied XK-120 Roadster. The car offered here, chassis number 670056, was the 56th Alloy Roadster built, and it is one of one hundred eighty-four delivered with left-hand drive, out of a total of 242 Alloy-bodied cars produced. A truly fine example of the rarest of all early patterned Aluminum bodied cars with steel disc wheels, and distinctive rear mudguard spats. The roadster was completed on December 14, 1949, and later dispatched on January 3, 1950 to Hoffman Jaguar in New York, N.Y. The roadster stayed in the U.S. until the late 1960s, and was then imported to France by a well-known Jaguar collector who participated in the 50th Anniversary of Le Mans with this very car. The roadster was then sold in 1978 with the intent of being exhibited at the Montlhéry Jaguar Museum. Since then, Jaguar professionals performed a comprehensive, no-expense spared bare metal restoration to the roadster, where the car was dismantled and prepared for painting. A complete mechanical restoration was performed as well, with the gearbox, rear axle, carburetors, starter and other parts restored. The roadster's upholstery was completely renewed by Master Jaguar trimmers, who also paid great care in restoring the car's soft top. A comprehensive file of documents, restoration photos, and receipts accompany the car, along with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate to verify its authenticity. With only 17% of all Alloy roadsters produced to these specs, this example stands as a the archetypical and most desirable of the Alloy-bodies series of cars, and presents the serious Jaguar collector with a rarely afforded opportunity to own a coveted piece of Jaguar motor history.

    I note when it was auctioned by Bonhams in August 2016 it was noted as "It was found to be entirely numbers-matching in all respects."
    Unfortunately this car is not matching numbers the engine having been replaced by a later XK engine by 1969.
    During the restoration in France someone had tried reasonably hard to get a early motor but it is certainly not the original motor and certainly not the correct early block.
    I don't know what gearbox is in the car but the head and block are both from a later car presumably a MKVII and have been poorly restamped to show original engine number.
    Alloy 120's of course don't have a engine number stamped on the head.
