Purchased car from estate of second owner. They owned from at least mid 1970's. Car was purchased from original owner in Los Angeles and driven for a few years and put away in 1980. I purchased the car from the estate and removed from their garage where it has sat since 1980. Rehabbing the car to be tour ready for events like the Colorado Grand. Really solid original car with one repaint.

A delightful find.
And how excellent to see pictures where someone has bothered to put up some captions.
New owner has a most interesting name !

Jeremy B. Thank you. To be clear; no relation. I continue to work on the car and hope to have it running and driving by summer. We've started it to do compression tests, etc and all in order. Watching the BaT car now and had been thinking maybe sending this one to BaT one day once complete. Too nice to restore I think but others might disagree. Cheers!

Yes. When these cars are over-restored they lose something.
BTW, please forgive my ignorance, but what does ‘BaT’ mean ?

Jeremy B, My apologies, I just saw this. I don't go on very often. BaT is Brang A Trailer.
The plan for this car is to show it at the Newport Concours in Rhode Island this fall. We have done a lot of work to the car preparing it. We rebuilt the head and put on new timing chains. We've completed brakes, tires, fluids, electrical, fuel system, etc. We are tidying up the interior trying to maintain as much original as possible. I hope to do both the road tour and of course, the show. Hoping other owners will come and say hello and check it out.

Seller's description:
1949 Jaguar XK120 Alloy Roadster
• A numbers-matching example verified by its Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate
• 1 of only 240 aluminum-bodied Roadsters conceived
• Known history from new with just three owners
• Recent $26,000 mechanical freshening documented by receipts
• Unrestored and highly usable
An iconic time capsule today, this 1949 Jaguar XK120 Alloy Roadster is believed to be one of just a few known unrestored surviving aluminum-bodied examples in the world. Documented by its Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, which was issued on August 3rd, 2020, chassis 670082 was manufactured on January 10th, 1950, and then dispatched from the factory on February 10th, 1950, to the original Hornburg distributor located in Los Angeles, California, USA. Originally ordered in Pastel Blue over a Duo Blue interior, the first owner would change the color shortly after his purchase to Jaguar’s Old English White as it better suited his taste. The car would remain with him until 1976 when he sold this Jag to a Hollywood costume artist, who would eventually head to the East Coast, bringing the car with him. While in the possession of the second owner, the car would be parked in a private garage in Flushing, New York and left there till the third and current owner would rescue it in 2020. Knowing the importance it carried, being an original alloy-bodied car, he made the proper decision to preserve the aesthetics and appearance and focus on the mechanics. This included a rebuild of the top part of the engine, new timing chains and belts, fluids, a full brake rebuild and tuning the engine, all of which are documented by receipts that total over $26,000. Most recently, this Jaguar was equipped with new carpet and period-correct upholstery sourced from another XK120.
Retaining its original aluminum body, and as evidenced by the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, its numbers-matching engine, and gearbox, this 1949 Jaguar XK120 presents itself as a unique and rare opportunity in the collector car world. Along with its orginal components, it comes with the low roof metal components for the top, which was only in production for one year. With its recent mechanical refreshing, this Jaguar stands ready to be driven to shows and participate in a plethora of rallies and other select events around the globe.

This 1950 Jaguar XK120 is one of approximately 240 aluminum-bodied roadsters manufactured between 1948 and 1950, of which about 180 were left-hand drive. Chassis 670082 was manufactured on January 10, 1950, and dispatched the following month for distribution via Los Angeles-based importer Charles Hornburg. The car is said to have been first sold in California and repainted white shortly thereafter. It was reportedly sold to its second owner in 1976, where it remained with the same family through the seller’s acquisition in 2020. Subsequent service involved refreshing the burgundy interior and overhauling the cylinder head and steering box as well as replacing the timing chains. The car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes SU carburetors, body-color steel wheels, a split windshield, rear wheel spats, and Smiths instrumentation. This alloy-bodied XK120 is offered in Indiana by the seller on behalf of the current owner, a retail dealership, with a recent service invoice, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate, and a South Carolina title that lists the vehicle as a 1949 model year.
This example left the factory in Pastel Blue and is said to have been repainted in its current Old English Ivory in the early 1950s. Leather hood straps were added under current ownership, and further exterior details include split front bumpers, rear bumperettes, a split windshield, tri-bar headlights, and rear wheel spats.
Body-color steel wheels wear Jaguar-branded hubcaps and are mounted with Firestone 6.00-15 tires that were installed in June 2022, while a full-size spare is housed in the trunk compartment. The XK120 rode on an independent torsion bar front suspension with semi-elliptic leaf springs fitted at the rear. The steering box was overhauled in 2022, and stopping power is provided by drum brakes at each corner. Imperfections can be seen in the finish on the front wheels.
Trimmed from the factory in Duo Blue, the leather bucket seats and dashboard were re-dyed burgundy in June 2022. Additional work performed at that time included reupholstering the color-coordinated door panels and replacing the carpeting. Creasing is noted on the seating surfaces.
The four-spoke steering wheel shows wear and sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer, and supplementary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 53k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership.
The 3.4-liter inline-six features twin SU carburetors as well as polished covers for its dual overhead camshafts. Work performed in June 2022 by Dragone Classic Motorcars of Orange, Connecticut, involved overhauling the cylinder head and replacing the timing chains, guides, tensioners, and fuel pump.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Additional underside images are presented in the gallery.
The 2021 Production Record Trace certificate lists the factory colors, identification numbers, build date, and distribution through Hornburg of Los Angeles, California.
The South Carolina title carries an “Exempt” brand.
