Car apparently went unsold in the '01 auction. Multiple sources show no hammer price or high bid. Results also found here:

To clarify the two above comments by Pauls, Phil Hill raced 670138 to a second place finish in a shorter, preliminary race at Pebble Beach on November 5, 1950. It was during this race that he shattered his clutch. Despite this, he then took 670138 to a decisive overall victory in the main event, though he started from behind, had no use of his clutch, and not a whole lot of brakes by the end either. He later called this his first important win. More info can be found in the November 1998 issue of Road and Track, and the December 2006 issue as well.

Phil Hill's son Derek takes Wayne Carini for some laps around the old Pebble Beach race course in this car, for an episode of Chasing Classic Cars in 2013. There's a YouTube clip here:

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
