I visited the Hill & Vaughn restoration shop while this car was being restored. At that time it had a windshield from a later steel bodied car and the rear license plate "bracket" was from a steel bodied car also.

This 1950 Jaguar XK120 roadster is one of approximately 240 aluminum-bodied examples manufactured by Jaguar between 1948 and 1950, of which about 180 were left-hand drive. The car was manufactured in March 1950 and dispatched to New York soon after, and it was refurbished by Hill & Vaughn of Santa Monica, California around 1989 and received further refurbishment work by World of Jaguars in Phoenix, Arizona in 2006. Refinished in silver over a red interior, the car is powered by a numbers-matching 3.4-liter inline-six mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The vehicle participated in the Colorado Grand and Copperstate 1000 rallies in 1999, the Gauthier Classic in 2002, and the Mountain Mille in 2015. The current owner purchased the car in 2008, and subsequent servicing and upgrades have included installing an aluminum radiator with an electric fan as well as a coolant-expansion tank, an electric-choke cutoff switch, and an onboard trickle charger. This XK120 Alloy is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a black canvas soft top, a tonneau cover, side curtains, a tool kit and jack, service records since 2006, a 1999 letter from RM Classic Cars, a spare Moss four-speed manual transmission, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Virginia title in the owner’s name.

This car is said to have been refurbished in 1989 by Hill & Vaughn and was subsequently further refreshed in 2006 by World of Jaguars, where the alloy body was repainted in factory silver. An invoice for the 2006 work is provided. The windshield stanchion was replaced in 2015.

Exterior features include split front bumpers, rear bumperettes, bright trim, a split windshield, fender-mounted mirrors, and rear wheel spats. The seller notes an area of cracked and peeling paint on the cowl, an imperfection at the rear edge of the driver’s door, and a scuff in the soft top, close-up photos of which can be viewed in the gallery. Accompanying black side curtains and a tonneau cover are included in the sale.

Color-matched 16″ steel wheels with chrome Jaguar hubcaps are wrapped in six-inch-wide Michelin Pilote X tires installed in 2015.

Red leather upholstery is complemented by matching door panels, dashboard padding, carpeting, and trunk-compartment trim, all of which was refurbished and re-dyed in 2006 by World of Jaguars. A 12-volt power supply has been installed under the dashboard.

The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a center-mounted instrument panel with a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer displays 9,400 miles, approximately 6k of which have been added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six features polished cam covers and is equipped with dual SU carburetors and a replacement cylinder head. Items installed under current ownership include an aluminum radiator with an electric fan, an onboard trickle charger, a coolant-expansion tank, and an electric-choke cutoff switch. Maintenance has been performed by Gassman Automotive Products of Waynesboro, Virginia, and service invoices can be viewed in the gallery below. Compression-test readings reportedly obtained in January 2021 show readings between 140 and 150 psi for all six cylinders.

The serial number on the engine block (W1267-8) matches that shown on the JHT certificate and also on the identification plate in the car’s engine compartment. The replacement cylinder head bears stamping NC4860-8.

Power is routed to the rear wheels via a General Motors–sourced five-speed manual transmission. An uninstalled factory-style Moss four-speed manual gearbox is included in the sale. Additional photos of the underbody are provided.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate indicates that the vehicle was dispatched to the Hoffman distributor in New York on March 28, 1950. The factory silver-over-red color scheme and serial numbers for various components are also documented.
