    Details
    Car Condition: Show Level
This early XK-120 has spectacular elegant lines and is an iconic legend from Jaguar. Recipient of a comprehensive frame-off and rotisserie restoration by Classic Showcase. Everything is correct and proper on the car down to the last bolt. During the restoration process the XK-120 was stripped to bare metal, fitted, metal worked, premiered, sealed, painted, color sand and buffed to perfection. All parts were painted individually off the car. The engine and head were completely re-built to exact factory specifications without any modifications. All mechanicals and systems were restored including. electrical system, cooling system, hydraulic system and fuel system. A new wire loom installed, gages restored, new convertible top was fitted and installed and the car received new glass. This XK-120 includes tools, a car cover, and tonneau cover. This is one of the finest early XK-120’s in the world today, all numbers match, comes with a Heritage Certificate of Authenticity that states the original colors in which the car was restored to its original color combination of Pastel Blue with two-tone French Blue and Gray interior. This is the 288th XK-120 built and there probably is not a better one available in the world. The car features its original Dunlop tires for showing and campaigning purposes, but these would not be recommended for driving on the road. Accompany the car is a DVD of the restoration process.

Car is to be auctioned on Saturday, August 20, 2011 by RM Auctions.

    www.rmauctions.com/FeatureCars.cfm

    Estimate: $180,000-$210,000 US

    Description:

The Jaguar XK120 Roadster presented here is the epitome of pedigree. With limited ownership, documented matching numbers and a world-class restoration, this National Champion Roadster garnered 99.99 points at several distinguished JCNA shows. The 288th Jaguar XK120 produced, it was the perfect candidate to be commissioned for a restoration by marque specialists Classic Showcase of Southern California. After undergoing a comprehensive, frame-off rotisserie restoration to a high show-quality level with no expense spared, this car is reported by the vendor to be one of the very finest examples in the world today.

This XK120 is an early production Roadster with many of the original features that were distinctive of the aluminum-bodied Jaguar which was in production shortly before switching to steel panels. Some of these features include early-style fender lamps, chrome top bows, chrome seat frames and a chrome bonnet prop rod. These early production XK120s also had a different hood with rear glass window on the hood rather than plastic. There were also no vent doors on the fender.

As demonstrated in the accompanying DVD of the restoration by Classic Showcase, the XK120's body was stripped to bare metal, metal worked, primed, sealed, painted individually by panel, color-sanded and then buffed to flawless perfection. Restored to the original Pastel Blue and complemented by the original color scheme of two-tone French Blue and gray for the interior, accuracy has been adhered to with diligence, which can be confirmed by the accompanying Heritage Certificate. The engine has been completely rebuilt but remains unmodified, to exacting factory specifications, with less than 100 test miles since restoration. All systems, including mechanical, electrical, cooling, hydraulics and fuel, have been restored along with original factory gauges. A new wiring loom and glass were installed as well as a new, fitted convertible top. The tires have been returned to original Coker Classics to ensure accuracy and safety. The accompanying package includes the restoration DVD, Heritage Certificate, tools, car cover and tonneau cover. XK120s of this caliber are seldom seen on today's market and as such warrant very close attention from Jaguar collectors in search of the very best.

    1950 Jaguar XK120 Roadster

    LOT: 147

    Estimate: $175,000-$200,000 US

AUCTION RESULTS: Lot was Not Sold at a high bid of $125,000

    1950 Jaguar XK120 Roadster

    Chassis No. 670288

To be auctioned on Thursday, January 19, 2012

    • No-expense-spared restoration

    • About 17,550 original miles with less than 100 since restoration

    • Early example restored by marque specialist Classic Showcase

This particular XK120 was an excellent candidate for restoration with its short list of owners, superb pedigree and matching numbers. The previous owner, an avid collector, commissioned a comprehensive, body-off restoration from the marque specialists Classic Showcase with no expense spared. During the restoration process, the XK120 was stripped to bare metal, fitted, metal worked, primed, sealed, painted, color-sanded and buffed to perfection. All parts were painted individually off of the car. The engine and head were completely rebuilt to exact factory specifications. All mechanical components and systems were restored, including the electrical, cooling, hydraulic and fuel systems. A new wire loom was installed and the gauges restored.

In doing the complete interior, Classic Showcase fitted and trimmed all the upholstery with the proper materials for the seats, door panels, carpets, convertible top and tonneau cover. Among the many new parts, the car also received all new glass. This is likely among the finest early XK120s available in the world today. All numbers match and it comes with a Heritage Certificate of Authenticity.

The car was restored to the original color combination of Pastel Blue with two-tone French Blue and Gray interior as stated on the Heritage Certificate. The car sits on period-correct tires manufactured by Coker Classic Tires. This exceptional Jaguar has been driven less than 100 test miles since the restoration, and a DVD of the restoration process will accompany the car as well. This timeless beauty is a proven award winner, bringing home First Place trophies in all its outings thus far. Having scored 99.99 points in several JCNA shows, it was then displayed in the aforementioned private collector's climate-controlled museum.

This example is the 288th XK120 built and is therefore one of the early steel-bodied examples produced after the end of alloy-body production. There is likely no better example available today. With its spectacular, sleek and elegant body design, this is an exceptional early 120 intended for the discerning collector in search of high quality and attention to detail.

Lovely car, nice paint and very correct looking interior, although I would have thought that an OTS had the two-tone, Light and Dark Blue interior and that the center of the dash would have had the same "Pale Blue" aka "Light Blue" rexine. The hood (top) is apparently now dark blue, the original French Grey is a very light grey.

about Pekka's words, - I think - that it is not so simple in that period to have the correct data on Heritage. If they say Blue trim, we should suppose all Blue trim.

if they say Duo-Blue, it is a Blue and Light Grey !! I saw it on original standing cars. So Duo Blue could be Blue and Grey.

On early 120 FHCs also if we find on Heritage " Blue interiors" what can we do ? I think to retrim in Blue, not Duo-Blue. And Duo Blue in my opinion is not dark Blue-Light Blue, but Blue-Grey as I found several times, always I mean in original interiors. An interesting debate, my friends . . .

    Auction description:

    Monterey Conference Center

    18 - 20 August 2022

    1950 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster

    Offered Without Reserve

    Chassis No. 670288

    Documents US Title

Offered from the Iannelli Family Collection

    Finished in factory-correct Pastel Blue

Features numbers-matching engine and stylish rear-wheel spats

    Faithfully restored to award-winning standards

Documented by JDHT certificate, restoration files, and JCNA judging sheets

An accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate shows that this particular XK 120 was delivered new to Montreal, Canada on 30 June 1950. As the 288th XK 120 built, it is one of the earliest steel-bodied examples created immediately after the end of alloy-body production. Chassis 670288’s first recorded owner was David P. Gurd.

Though its interceding ownership history is presently unknown, by 2006 it had entered the possession of a prominent collector from southern California. Beginning in 2010, this previous owner commissioned a comprehensive, body-off restoration from the marque specialists at Classic Showcase of Oceanside, California.

As documented by a folder of restoration images, this XK 120 was stripped to bare metal and masterfully refinished in its correct and beautiful Pastel Blue color. The engine and cylinder head were completely rebuilt to factory specifications. All mechanical components and systems were consequently restored, including the electrical, cooling, hydraulic, and fuel systems. A new wire loom was also installed, and the Smiths gauges were refurbished.

The interior was recommissioned with striking two-tone Blue and French Grey leather upholstery, complete with a French Grey convertible top and matching tonneau cover. Among many other new parts, the car also received all new glass.

This timeless beauty is a proven award winner, bringing home multiple first-place trophies since emerging from restoration. Having scored 99.99 points in several Jaguar Clubs of North America shows, it was then displayed in the previous owner’s climate-controlled museum.

Since entering the consignor’s esteemed collection, 670288 has always maintained the same schedule of careful use and proud exhibition. The consignor notes that an onsite technician has provided maintenance at regular intervals, and within the last 50 miles the car has received fresh fluids and necessary servicing.

Spectacular, sleek, and elegant, this exceptional and exquisitely restored early XK 120 is ideal for the discerning collector.
