This 1950 Jaguar XK120 roadster was completed on June 12, 1950, and was distributed new in the US via Max Hoffman in New York. The car is said to have spent time under the ownership of two Louisiana residents between 1960 and 2008. It was then purchased by a Texas Jaguar specialist who performed a refurbishment that included the mating of a BorgWarner five-speed manual transmission to the 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six. Finished in black over red leather, the car also features hydraulic drum brakes, body-color 16” steel wheels, rear wheel spats, a black soft top with matching side curtains, and a glass-pack muffler. This XK120 was purchased by the selling dealer in 2022 and is now offered with its removed four-speed manual transmission, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, an owner’s manual, a black tonneau cover, and a clean California title.

Originally finished in Suede Green, the body was refinished in its current shade of black during the refurbishment performed by the previous owner in the 2000s. Exterior features include front fenders absent of vents, rear wheel spats, split chrome bumpers, and a black soft top that is accompanied by matching side curtains.

Body-color steel wheels wear bright hubcaps and beauty rings and are mounted with General AltiMAX RT tires, while a spare stowed in the trunk wears Avon rubber. Stopping is handled by hydraulic drum brakes at each corner. Suspension incorporates a torsion-bar front setup and a leaf-sprung solid-axle rear.

The cabin is trimmed in red leather over the seats with matching upholstery over the door panels, dash, and cockpit perimeter. Additional features include color-matched carpeting, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, door pockets, and a passenger-side grab handle.

The four-spoke steering wheel is situated to the left of Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer, and gauges monitoring fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles, approximately 500 of which have been added under current ownership.

The 3.4-liter inline-six features dual overhead camshafts, twin SU carburetors, and polished valve covers. Service in December 2022 is said to have included cleaning of the carburetors and fluid changes.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a BorgWarner five-speed manual transmission that was installed by the previous owner. The exhaust system has been fitted with a glass-pack muffler, and sound-deadening material has been added on the underside of the floors.

The removed four-speed manual gearbox is included in the sale and has reportedly been rebuilt. Transmission number JH3011 is stamped on the gearbox casing and top cover, matching the number listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.

The JHT certificate lists the original colors and component numbers as well as the manufacture and delivery dates. Engine number W1655-8 is stamped on the chassis plate and engine block and is listed on the JHT certificate, while number W1655 is stamped on the cylinder head.

The car is registered as Planned Non-Operation in the state of California.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
