Ebay item 2/21/11 cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JAGUAR-XK-120-ROADSTER-/140515106681 Opening bid $40,000, no reserve, no bids yet no expiration in auction. Sellers description: This 1951 XK Roadster is the 599th car built and it is an early steel body with solid wheels and skirts. It is a California car with no evidence of rust, ever. It is in show condition and was the winner of its class at the Beverly Hills Graystone Concours in Spring, 2010. (photos are included) Being a 1951, it is not adorned with the amenities that came afterward. For example, it does not have the optional heater, (referred to as "air conditioning in the Service Manual!) but does have a side mirror properly mounted on the windshield frame and not fender rear view mirrors, as all European cars have. There are no safety belts. Believe it or not, safety belts were not standard equipment. However, it does have the European headlights, the chrome attached side lights, proper for the early cars, Ace rimbellishers on the wheels, whitewalls (Firestone vintage) and all tools in absolutely mint condition, and the Tyre Pump is original to the car. It possesses an original unused British manufactured Dunlop RS4 wide wihitewall spare, the only one I have ever seen which I received many years ago from Hornburgh Motors, who I have dealt with since 1966. This is not a reproduction car. It is finely and very accurately resotred. In fact, the windshield wipers are original Lucas, with an extra set in the factory packing. The top is Black Mohair with proper side curtains and all is as new. The film is still on the side curtain plexiglas. A disclaimer on originality: I never painted the center "hub covers" in black as they should be, since I liked them all chrome, as were the later cars. The seat frames and top bows are gray, however they should be chrome to be perfectly original for an early car. I just like to leave things as they are however these issues are easily addressed. The car is finished in Black with Scarlet Red and Beige insert seats that are Connolly. Likewise, the dash is in two tone Scarlet / Beige. All leather is treated regularly with Connolly Hide Food. All instruments are in perfect working order except the clock. Nisonger, in NY can repair this clock and they have been the Smiths authorized repair facility since I can remember, when I first acquired a 1966 E Type that year. Believe me this car is more exciting to drive than new exotics. That said, it is necessary for any potential buyer to find one to sit in and make sure that you can fit in it! As with all of my cars, this car is immaculately maintained by senior (retired) Jaguar Factory mechanics in Los Angeles who know the car, and are familiar with the early models. All parts are original and number codes. I drive this, as with all my cars frequently and respectfully. Of course, the engine, transmission and body numbers all match. The serial tag is in the photos. A heritage certificate is available. The car starts instantly and their are no untoward engine noises. It is whisper quiet as a new car. This car is as close to a 100 as it gets. The undercarriage is detailed, the leather gaiters are in place over the leaf springs, and it has a stainless steel exhaust. This car has not been in any auction since my ownership in 2003. It is registered in California and has original Black / Yellow 1951 License Plates which are deemed registered to the car, and stay with the car. Also included is the original Service Manual, hard bound. This car is for a discriminating Jaguar enthusiast, who will drive and enjoy this vehicle as much as I have.

I Have MGM Studio photos of a similar car actually owned by Clark Gable shown in the film "To Please a Lady. " Gable's car is sitting in a staged film studio garage next to a vintage Indianapolis Racer circa 1951. Barbara Stanwyck was his co-star.
Hornburgh Motors in West Hollywood have, in its showroom framed pictures of Gable, Charles Hornburgh and Sir William Lyons, on delivery of his XK120 in California.
