Lot #92189

This 1950 Jaguar XK120 roadster is a non-running project that was acquired by the seller in 2016. It is equipped with an overbored replacement 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a replacement four-speed manual transmission. Work under current ownership has included overhauling the cylinder head, rebuilding the instrumentation, and servicing brake, suspension, and clutch components. Steel 16″ wheels are equipped, and a removed soft top frame accompanies the vehicle along with spare parts and seat frames. This XK120 project is offered at no reserve with a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The car left the factory finished in silver and wears the remains of burgundy paint. Flaking body filler is present on the decklid, rust in the left-rear fender and right side of the body is shown in the image gallery below, and the seller notes that the areas where the hinges attach to the doors need to be repaired. Previous bodywork is said to include repairing the fight-front fender, replacing the sills, and removing the rear fender inserts. A split windshield, chrome taillight housings, and replacement louvers and headlights are fitted. A removed soft top frame and chrome split bumpers will accompany the car.

Black-finished 16″ steel wheels were installed under current ownership and are wrapped in Avon bias-ply tires that the seller notes need to be balanced. Service under current ownership has reportedly included resurfacing the brake drums and replacing the rubber bushings, rear leaf springs, and the front sway bar.

The interior has largely been stripped, though replacement floors, seat frames, and a dashboard-mounted rear-view mirror and passenger grab handle remain.

Instrumentation was rebuilt in 2018 and includes a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 1 mile. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement inline-six was reportedly bored over 0.020″ from its original 3.4-liter displacement, and the cylinder head is said to have been decked 0.006.” The seller states that additional work under current ownership has included replacing the valves and valve seats, seals, springs, camshaft bushings, water pump, and fan as well as rebuilding carburetors and the oil pump, generator, and radiator with an additional row of cooling tubes. Replacement exhaust manifolds are fitted, though an exhaust system is not installed. A spare fuel pump, fuel lines, wiring harness, and a points system are included with the sale.

The seller notes that a replacement Moss four-speed manual transmission is fitted and that service under current ownership has included replacing the clutch, pilot bushing, throw-out bearing, cross shaft, pressure plate, and differential seals and bearings in addition to rebalancing the flywheel.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors along with a manufacture date of October 9, 1950.

The car is titled under the engine number displayed on the data plate—W22308—rather than its chassis number. Chassis number 670898 is consistent with that of an XK120 built in 1950. The car is registered as Planned Nonoperation, and the registration lists the model year as 1951. The seller notes that the body number tag is missing.
