Car to return to auction 2/21

rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/0221/open-roads--february/lots/r0020-1950-jaguar-xk-1 ...

Auction description:

1950 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster

RM | Online Only - OPEN ROADS, FEBRUARY 19 - 28 FEBRUARY 2021 - European Offering—Lots Closing Friday, 26 February

Chassis No. 671040

Restored with vintage rallies in mind

Competed in the 2010 and 2011 Mille Miglia

Highly eligible to numerous vintage racing events

Please note that this lot will need to be collected from Brusaporto, Italy

Built in 1950 to LHD specifications, this XK120 Roadster is finished in the classically British color combination of Green with a tan interior and is one of 1,025 OTS (open two-seater) roadsters produced that year. Although nothing is known about its early history, it is assumed that the car was built for the U.S. market, due to its LHD configuration and speedometer in miles rather than kilometers. Presently registered in Italy, the car has been restored with vintage racing in mind and has competed in the 2010 and 2011 Mille Miglia. Used very much as its manufacturers intended, the car shows some signs of wear throughout due to its use and is said to drive well. It is important to note that while the engine’s head is unstamped, it is of the correct type.

Hugely eligible for vintage racing events, the XK120 is a driver’s favorite not only for its event eligibility, but its performance, handling, and stunning good looks. Having competed at the Mille Miglia twice, this example would surely be welcomed back at that event again, and would provide entry to any number of vintage races or rallies across Europe.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
