As Listed on eBay - September 2005

This Jag underwent a ground up restoration appx. 20 years ago and has remained in climate controlled storage ever since. During that period of time, the car has been driven very sparingly (only about 500 total miles have been put on the car since the restoration). Since the restoration, the owner has taken the car to a few Jaguar shows concourse judging. The last time he had the car out for judging was on 9/8/01, where is scored an 87.8. Most of the deductions were due to incorrect clamps, hoses & fittings. The owner has since taken care of many of those concourse deficiencies, but has not had the car rejudged recently.

The tan interior of this XK120 is in excellent overall condition, with new Bassett seats, carpeting & the convertible top having been installed during the restoration process. The original style battery box is present. Additionally, the original tool kit, jack assembly and spare tire for the car is completely intact and will be included in the sale of the vehicle. As for the exterior, the body, wheels, and undercarriage are in very nice shape, and the floor pans are very solid. The British Racing Green paint (originally pastel green) is really nice as well, but is starting to show its age in a few areas. At this time, you could certainly get away with touching up the afflicted areas in lieu of a new paint job. The only trouble area that I think may need some attention in the near future is in the driver door well. There is some rust developing here and should be a fairly easy fix.

Finally, a couple of notes on known issues with the car. First, the passenger door seems to be a little out of adjustment and will need to be aligned (simple fix). Next, since this vehicle has been sitting so much over the years, the brakes have swollen up a bit and are locking up intermittently. I think simply putting some miles on the car will take care of this problem. Third, because the car has been sitting, the tires are beginning to show some signs of dry rot. I don't believe this to be an immediate concern but I would plan to replace these Dunlop 6.00H16 blackwalls before too long. And finally, the side curtins for the convertible top do not fit very well. The owner believes they may be for an XK140, not an XK120. They fit the window well but the bracketry doesn't match up. He's been aware of this issue for ages but never drives the car in the rain, so it wasn't a pressing issue to him.

Over the years, there has been much speculation as to whether this car was actually a 1950 or 1951 model year vehicle. When the roadster was purchased by the present owner, it was titled as a 1951 Jaguar XK120, but after a great deal of research and confirmation from noted Jaguar expert Paul Borel in his 1977 letter (see attachment), the car was retitled as a 1950 Jaguar XK120. The full explanation as to why it was felt this vehicle was a 1950 vs. 1951 resides in this letter.

Although it is all academic now it seems the dealer did cheat the buyer (see above) This was built in 1951 June

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
