This 1951 Jaguar XK120 OTS is an extensively overhauled example of the iconic British roadster, which has been carefully restored and rebuilt to fast road / racing specification.
Under the bonnet is an upgraded 3.4-litre inline-six, which now sends 253bhp to the rear wheels via a new Getrag five-speed manual transmission and a locking differential.
The odometer currently displays around 550 miles, which is the distance covered since the full rebuild.
Manufactured in July 1951, this Jaguar XK120 OTS (open two-seater) started life as a left-hand drive, US-market drive car, and was sold new by the Hoffman Motor Company in New York.
At some point in its history, the car was converted from left to right-hand drive, and it was imported into the UK and registered with the DVLA in May 2000.
This XK120’s restoration and rebuild included the fitment of lightweight aluminium bodywork, an engine rebuild to ‘competition’ specifications, a disc brake upgrade, and the replacement of the original gearbox with a new five-speed Getrag unit.
The car is now offered for sale via the trade, and the seller states that it is eligible for entry into the prestigious Mille Miglia road rally.
As confirmed by original records, this XK120 left the factory finished in Birch Grey with Biscuit and Red interior trim.
Since its extensive restoration and rebuild, the car’s new aluminium bodywork has been painted in the classic hue of Jaguar Racing Green, and its interior has been retrimmed in black leather.
The car rides on a set of silver-painted 16-inch wire wheels with two-eared knock-off hub nuts, shod in new Blockley radial tyres.
The specification now includes a power-lock rear differential, front and rear disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, a fully polished and ported cylinder head with D-type cams, balanced pistons and conrods, a lightweight flywheel and clutch, and the previously mentioned Getrag five-speed manual gearbox.
The cabin also features a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel, Smiths gauges, and Wilwood pedals.
The car will be supplied with various maintenance documents, as well as a Jaguar Heritage Certificate.
CONDITION
The car was rebodied during its rebuild, and the fully resprayed Jaguar Racing Green paintwork is described by the seller as being in excellent condition, with only a few minor swirl marks visible under direct light.
The cabin has been fully retrimmed and is in superb order, with no notable marks or signs of wear.
The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults.
Due to its age, the vehicle is exempt from mandatory MOT testing. However, the car was inspected by JD Classics in January 2023.
SERVICE HISTORY
This XK120 car was comprehensively rebuilt and upgraded in 2022, including work by leading restorer JD Classics. This restoration involved the replacement of the original steel panels with lightweight aluminium bodywork, a full engine rebuild to ‘competition’ specification, replacement of the original gearbox with a new Getrag unit, and fitting four-wheel disc brakes.
The vehicle was then fully resprayed in its current hue of Jaguar Racing Green, and the interior was retrimmed in black leather.
