The XK 120 offered a rare combination of astonishing speed, racecar handling, and the pleasure of driving a beautiful machine . . . all at a price of around $4,000; substantially less than other cars that couldn't claim half its attributes. A total of 12,055 XK 120 roadsters, coupes, and drophead coupes were produced from 1948 to 1954 including 7,374 steel-bodied roadsters.

Wearing a classic combination of British Racing Green over biscuit leather, this XK 120 is properly fitted with wheel discs and rear wheel spats. It benefits from a frame-off restoration over the last five years and the invoices and records from the restoration are included and available for inspection. The beautiful restoration features a gorgeous leather interior and is described as having great paint and chrome. This XK 120 is ready to show and tour at JCNA events.

Car returns to ebay 12/23/16
www.ebay.com/itm/1953-Jaguar-XK-LEATHER-/192059721526
Car has a buy it now price of $149,500 for 6 days, seller dreckateer, car now said to be in Hollywood, Florida, 22k miles. Appears to have went unsold at above auction s no results are shown.

Sellers description:
THIS IS TRULY A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF A 1953 JAGUAR XK120 ROADSTER. IT HAS HAD A FRAME OFF RESTORATION AND, THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS AS WELL DONE AS THE REST OF THE CAR.

IN THESE PICTURES LISTED, YOU CAN SEE THE HIGH QUALITY OF THIS RESTORATION. FROM THE LEATHER INERIOR TO THE BODY AND PAINT, IT WAS DONE TO ORIGINAL WITH NO EXPENSE SPARED, AND NO DETAIL OVER LOOKED. THERE WERE NO CORNER CUT AND IT WILL CERTAINLY STAND UP TO ANY INSPECTION.

THE CAR STARTS STOPS AND DRIVES EXACTLY AS IT DID IN 1953 WHEN IT LEFT THE FACTORY. IT IS PART OF A COLLECTION REDUCTION BY THE OWNER.

IN RESPONSE TO EMAILS. WE SHOULD MENTION THAT SINCE THESE PICTURES WERE TAKEN THE OWNER HAD UPGRADED THE CENTER OF THE DASHBOARD TO A FINISHED WOOD. PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE OF THAT AS WELL AS UNDER THE CAR AND THE TRUNK.

IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH THESE CARS THEN THERE IS NOT A LOT TO SAY EXCEPT, PLEASE COME TO SUNNY FLORIDA AND INSPECT THIS VEHICLE. WE ASSURE YOU, THERE WILL BE NO DISAPPOINTMENTS.

The body number shown would fit a July 1950 built car Unlikely correct for this one

Car to be at auction 8/18
www.mecum.com/lots/CA0818-345894/1953-jaguar-xk120-roadster/

Auction description:
Lot F12 Monterey 2018 Aug 23-25
Trans 4-Speed
Color Green
Interior Tan
VIN/Serial 671968
Estimate $110,000 - $150,000
Cosmetic restoration
British Racing Green with Biscuit interior
Inline 6-cylinder engine
4-speed transmission
Folding soft top
Side curtains
Fender skirts
Dual SU carburetors
Smiths instruments
Woodgrain dash
Leather upholstery
Fog lamps
Color matched wheels
Bright trim rings and hubcaps

In the classic combination of dark green with biscuit carpet, leather, removable roadster soft-top and side screens, the interior is complemented with a walnut dash and Smiths instruments. On the exterior, this XK120 also features color-matched steel-disc wheels and fender skirts. Indeed many purists and aficionados prefer the combination of solid wheels with hubcaps and "spats," as they're known in Britain, for the way they evoke the period, rather than the chrome wires more commonly seen these days that are fiddly to clean and maintain. The additional fog lamps, as fitted here, were a popular and practical option. The engine is the classic 3.4L inline-6 with twin SU carburetors mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. Indeed, this is no heavily modded 5-speed road-race Hot Rod with aero screens and chrome wires, but something more pure. Having been the subject of a cosmetic restoration, the specification and appearance of this example will appeal to those who'd like to connect with the XK120 for what it was in its day and wonder at what it still delivers today.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
