Originally exported from Browns Lane to Hoffmans in New York on 8th July, 1952, it spent most of its life in Amarillo, Texas until July 2001 where it was repatriated and sold to the current owner in 2002. It was acquired with a view to undertake some of the many rallies that this car, in fast road specification, would be eligible for. A complete bare-metal restoration was subsequently undertaken by Jaguar specialists with the addition of a number of performance upgrades towards the end to ensure fast, trouble-free touring. Irrespective of the cost, this car has been totally and meticulously rebuilt from the ground up over a period of two years.
Indeed the owner, who was fortunate to work with the Jaguar Company in the 1950s, opined that the XK120 was the most attractive of the range. With this in mind it was decided to use this but to incorporate XK140 upgrades together with improvements to specification which would enhance the enjoyment of owning and driving the car without detracting from the original iconic William Lyons design.
Once stripped, it was converted back to righthand drive with the additional benefit of rack and pinion steering. The original engine was replaced with fully rebuilt and correct 3,442cc Jaguar unit and an improved larger core radiator with Kenlow thermostatically controlled fan. The gearbox is a rebuilt XK140 Moss box with overdrive and the exhaust has been upgraded with a full stainless steel unit. Suspension now incorporates telescopic shock absorbers with uprated XK150 disc brakes all round.
Externally, the body has been finished in a classic British Racing Green colour with matching suede green trim. The bonnet has been correctly louvered and set off with a modified bonnet catch and leather bonnet straps. The front and rear bumpers have also been removed with indicator lights fitted to the front wings. Aero screens adorn the topside and a Monza lockable petrol filler cap can be found to the rear. There is improved cockpit heating and lighting as well as hand rolled aluminium C-Type bucket seats trimmed in the finest Connolly hide. Supplied with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate and a current MoT test certificate issued in April 2012, altogether, an extremely fast, handsome and well-sorted motorcar with entirely thoughtful improvements to vastly improve the overall driving experience.
