Car to be at auction 8/19

worldwideauctioneers.com/auctions/car-details/index.php

Auction description:

Lot 22

CHASSIS NO: S673361

• Extensive nut and bolt restoration

• Matching numbers for chassis, engine and gearbox

• Original color-coded black exterior with correct red leather reupholstery

• Includes a SE (Special Equipment) package

3.4-litre high-lift, twin-cam inline six-cylinder engine, 180 HP, four-speed gearbox

As the rest of the world began to catch up with this shooting star, Jaguar’s engineers refused to rest on their laurels and elevated performance in 1951 with the SE (Special Equipment) package, which this particular example on offer delivers. The SE fortified the engine with high-lift camshafts, stronger rear springs, attractive dual exhaust and a better flywheel; the result was an additional 20 horsepower and an even smoother ride. The SE also received a new set of the now-iconic wire rims, which not only added to the aesthetic appeal, it achieved a striking look for footwear that would stay with Jaguar for decades. Among the most desirable of post-war automobiles ever made, only 7,614 XK120 Roadsters were produced.

The 1953 Jaguar XK120 SE Roadster we have the pleasure to offer you here has undergone a nut and bolt restoration with no expense spared. Prior to its several-year restoration, the car enjoyed most of its sheltered life in Escondido, California where it remained in all-original condition. Today, it is a true testament to its restoration’s level of expertise. This Special Equipment XK120 retains all matching numbers for its chassis, engine and gearbox and it’s running beautifully. It has been aptly returned to its former aesthetic glory with original black color-coded paint by Sacio Enterprises in San Diego, which has also overseen the restoration process. The original wire rims and all brightwork have been refinished to a bright gleam. The interior is flawless and has been refitted with a correct red leather interior. The result is the whole package - a striking example that is as alluring now as the day it was purchased.

This 1953 Jaguar XK120 is a Special Equipment roadster that reportedly spent 50 years with its previous owner in Southern California before being acquired by the seller in 2015. Work carried out by the seller’s shop over the next three years included a body-off repaint in its original shade of black, a reupholstered red leather interior, as well as a mechanical refurbishment. Power is supplied by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and equipment includes a black soft top with side curtains, black-painted 16″ wire wheels, an adjustable steering column, and twin exhaust pipes. This XK120 is now offered with an owner’s manual, a factory toolkit and jack, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, refurbishment and service records, a set of chrome wire wheels, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Originally finished in black, the body was reportedly repainted green by its previous longterm owner, and later returned to its factory shade of black during the body-off refurbishment performed by the seller’s shop, Sacio Enterprises of San Diego, California. A black canvas soft top and a pair of side curtains are included in the sale, and close-up photos of the bodywork and trim are provided in the image gallery below.

Black-painted 16″ wire wheels with chrome two-eared knockoff spinners wear Firestone tires. A full-size spare resides in the trunk, along with the factory toolkit and jack. A set of chrome wire wheels accompany the car.

The cabin was reupholstered in red leather by International Upholstery of San Diego, California and features a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. The dashboard houses lighting, wiper, and ventilation controls.

A four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a reverse-sweep tachometer with a 5,200-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows just under 80k miles, only a handful of which have been added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter inline-six is equipped with the Special Equipment package, which included twin SU carburetors, higher-lift camshafts, and dual exhaust pipes for a factory-rated output of 180 horsepower at 5,300-rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. A mechanical refurbishment is said to have been carried out in 2019, and work included replacement of the clutch and fuel tank.

Cylinder head stamping W7017-8S corresponds to the engine number displayed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate as well as the chassis tag.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists a build date of December 22, 1952, along with the factory colors and the chassis, body, engine, and gearbox numbers.
