This 1953 Jaguar XK120 roadster reportedly remained with a single family prior to being purchased for the current owner’s collection in 2007. Finished in Old English White over red leather, the car underwent a restoration in the 1980s and received a mechanical freshening in 2017 at a cost of over $12k. Power is provided by a 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six built by Forward Engineering and mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. This XK120 is part of the 25-vehicle, single-owner collection currently featured on BaT. It is now offered at no reserve in New Jersey with service records dating back to the 1980s and a clean Maryland title.
The exterior is finished in Old English White and wears an older repaint, and the car reportedly underwent a body-off-frame restoration in the 1980s. Spats are mounted out back, and the 16” painted steel wheels wear polished trim rings and color-matched hubcaps. A black soft top is equipped.
The cabin features red leather upholstery on the seats, dash, and door panels, as well as matching carpeting and a 4-spoke steering wheel. A rebuild of the seats is listed along with additional interior work on 1987 receipts from G.W Bartlett of Muncie, Indiana.
Instrumentation includes a reverse-sweep tachometer and a 140-mph speedometer. The 6-digit odometer shows approximately 4k miles, with true mileage unknown. Less than 1,500 miles have been added during the car’s 12 years in the current owner’s collection.
A 4.2-liter XK inline-six built by Forward Engineering was purchased in 1984 and features triple Weber carburetors. Engine block number 7D53212-8 is shown in the photo gallery below, as is head stamping 7A31060-8. Over $12k in mechanical work was reportedly completed in March 2017 at Vantage Motors in Stamford, Connecticut. A valve job was carried out in 2004 at Muncie Imports & Classics, and a number of invoices are included in the gallery below showing additional work from around that time, as well as in the 1980s. Shifting is through a 4-speed manual gearbox, and a dual exhaust has been added.
