This 1953 Jaguar XK120 roadster is an unfinished project that was acquired by the seller—the recently retired founder of The Jag Shop in Portland, Oregon—in 2020. The project was started by a previous long-term owner who disassembled the car, stripped and refinished the frame, and rebuilt the suspension. Included are a rebuilt 3.4-liter inline-six, a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission, refinished chrome wire wheels, reupholstered black leather seats, trim pieces, and spare parts, all of which are depicted in the gallery. This project XK120 is now offered with an Oregon title describing the car as a 1954 model.
The project was started by the previous owner, a body shop proprietor who acquired the car in the 1960s. Work performed included stripping and refinishing the frame, performing bodywork, applying a gray primer finish to the body panels, and replating the chrome trim. The hood remains bare aluminum.
The chrome wire wheels were rebuilt and refinished and are mounted with older Dunlop Road Speed tires. The suspension components were rebuilt and refinished during the refurbishment under previous ownership.
The seller notes that the seats were reupholstered in black leather in 2024.
Door panels and additional interior trim are included and photos are provided in the gallery.
The upholstered gauge cluster includes a reverse-sweep tachometer and a 140-mph speedometer. The five-digit odometer shows around 200 miles.
The replacement 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six was rebuilt by the seller at The Jag Shop of Portland, Oregon, in 2025. Work included:
Hot-tanking and honing the engine block
Installing replacement core plugs
Checking and micro-polishing the crankshaft
Servicing the cylinder head with a valve job and replacement valves, seals, and camshaft bearings
Assembling the engine with replacement rings, bearings, timing chains, and an oil pump
The seller is currently rebuilding the four-speed manual transmission and says the rebuild will include replacement bearings, gaskets, seals, and synchros. The work is expected to be completed before the close of the auction, but it may delay delivery.
The rear axle has been rebuilt.
The seller notes the following work remains to be completed:
Rebuilding the carburetors, water pump, and radiator
Installing points and a condenser in the distributor
Installing brake system components
Fitting body seals and gaskets
Installing soft top material
The chassis tag has been removed.
The car is titled as a 1954 model by the body number, F6188.
