The ultimate Grand Tourer

Jaguar XK 120 was born, the model name referring to its top speed of 120mph. Its lines were so pure that it became a reference in automotive design and an overnight success. The ladder-type chassis design also made it possible for some wealthy and even more demanding customers to commission a handful of rare and exclusive special-bodied versions.
The model which we are offering for sale is one such special-bodied Jaguar XK 120. Built by the factory in February 1954, as its Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirms, it should first be noted that it is fitted with an SE or 'Special Equipment' engine, developing an extra 20bhp, thanks to a special camshaft and lightened flywheel, among other changes. The original engine will be supplied with the car, but is not currently installed in it. Delivered new to Dr Murphy in the US state of Indiana, this car returned to the factory in Coventry a few years later to be rebodied in the style of the Jaguar SS 100. The work was carried out to a very high standard, with the front wings finely rendered with sharp leading edges. The unusual mahogany dashboard unique to the car is also of exceptional quality. Finished in metallic gunmetal grey, and with a very fine black leather interior, this Jaguar XK 120 Special is presented in exceptional condition. It performed moreover to our complete satisfaction on test.
With its sought-after styling and performance, the exclusive character of the Jaguar XK 120 is well established, but this special-bodied Jaguar - of which it is believed only three cars were built - represents a unique opportunity to acquire an exclusive automobile, a point not lost on the Maeterlinck collection, from which it comes to us.
