Lot #99652

This 1951 Jaguar XK120 is a left-hand-drive fixed-head coupe that was produced in August 1951 and distributed new through New York-based importer Max Hoffman in October of the same year. The car is finished in maroon over brown leather upholstery and is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes Lucas front driving lamps, rear-wheel spats, and front disc brakes as well as an electronic ignition system, an exhaust header, dual SU carburetors, and safety belts. The car underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment under previous ownership in 2002 and spent time in a number of states prior to its acquisition by the selling dealer in 2023. Service completed in preparation for the sale included a fluids check and an oil change. This XK120 FHC is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate, service records, and a Pennsylvania title.

This XK120 was originally finished in bronze according to the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and it was repainted in the current shade of maroon under prior ownership. Features include a leather hood strap, a split windshield, Lucas front driving lamps, and rear-wheel spats.

Chrome 16″ wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-offs and mounted with Vredestein tires up front, while a pair of 16″ painted steel wheels fitted with chrome trim rings, Jaguar-branded hubcaps, and Vredestein tires are installed. Braking is provided by front discs and rear drums.

Brown leather seat upholstery is accompanied by color-coordinated door panels and refinished wood trim. Equipment includes a four-spoke steering wheel, a slide-out storage tray, and safety belts for both occupants. Wear and seam separations are depicted on portions of the seat upholstery.

Centralized Smiths instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer and a reverse-sweep tachometer as well as an ammeter and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 16k miles.

The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six is said to feature a balanced lower end, aftermarket camshafts, and twin large-diameter SU carburetors. Further updates are said to have included installation of an electronic ignition ignition unit, an alternator, and a tubular exhaust header. Service conducted in preparation for the sale included an oil change and fluids check.

Engine number W3582-8 is stamped on the cylinder head and can also be seen stamped on the engine block in the gallery below. Both stamps correspond to the engine number listed on the chassis identification plate and on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission equipped with a lightened flywheel.

The 2023 Production Record Trace certificate lists the factory colors and identification numbers along with the build date and distribution through Max Hoffman of New York.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
