Car to be at auction 8/23

Auction description:
1952 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe
Broad Arrow auctions
Monterey Jet Center Auction 2023 | Estimate: $75,000 - $100,000
Chassis No. 680070
Body No. J2076

The XK120's racing successes and advertisements in the weekly periodicals, would capture the attention of an already car obsessed David Steinman who like most boys of his generation loved fast cars. As the world's fastest production car, it should come as no surprise that it would capture the heart of a 14 year old car lover who unsuccessfully campaigned for his father to take home a silver over red coupe presented at the Philadelphia Auto Show.

Though disappointed, the XK120 would never let go of his imagination and in the late 1950s, David would locate an example in the Philadelphia Inquirer and this time, his father relented. Described as vigorously enjoyed by a previous owner, it was repainted and outfitted with a new interior before it was presented to his father who would proceed to sell the car the very next day after proclaiming it was “too much” for him.

Eventually finding his own XK120 in the mid 1970s, this example was brought home by David Steinman needing restoration work for which he was well qualified. Enjoyed for a number of years by his youngest son, who pretended to drive it in the driveway, it was eventually brought into David's shop where a meticulous multi-year frame-off restoration was performed. After completion in 1984, it was campaigned for various AACA events across the country where it was crowned an AACA Senior National First Prize Winner in 1986. Retired to The Steinman Collection in Waitsfield, Vermont after its successful showings, this XK120 was enjoyed for local coffee runs where David would arrive in elegance to meet friends and fellow Jaguar enthusiasts. It remains in lovely condition showing only a light patina on Steinman's impressive restoration, ready to join its next collection.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
