Sellers description:
1952 Jaguar XK-120 Coupe
Overview:
Complete body-off restoration.
The car for sale is exceptional; it has several practical upgrades and is both responsive and comfortable to drive. The vintage bucket seats are set further back than the original bench style, and the Tilton clutch and brake allow for more foot room. All of the bottom floor pans back through the trunk area are new, as are the door shunt posts and sills. XK coupes originally had a wood sub frame, which the deck lid and door panels shroud. In most cars this wood is loose and dry-rotted. I have replaced the door structure with aluminum tubing and the skins are welded to it. The trunk has a new wood frame. All bolts are hardened and nuts, bolts & screws smaller than quarter-inch are stainless steel. All switches and instruments are rebuilt and all bushings and bearings throughout are new.

In the engine compartment, there is a C-type large valve head with MC cams. The carburetion is from 2-inch carbs. These modifications, along with a lightened flywheel and Borgs Warner 5-T transmission, give the car lively performance. Except for the head and transmission, this is a numbers-matching car. However, the original head and tran, along with original carbs, exhaust manifolds and steering wheel are also available.

To Recap: This is a thorough full body-off restoration completed in December of 2004. There are a number of upgrades, creating an up-to-date grand touring car. This is a fun-to-drive, fast and spirited vehicle. Seamist Green exterior with sage green leather interior & birdseye burled walnut dash & trims. All numbers match except for head.

Engine: C-type large valve head, stainless steel headers, 30% lightened flywheel, 460-G 2-inch carbs, line-bored & balanced, new pistons, valves, guides; aluminum radiator; alloy gas tank;

Suspension: All rebuilt with new springs & differential, all new

bearings & seals; Transmission: T-5 conversion with 5-speed overdrive; Hydraulics: Tilton clutch & brake assembly; XK-150 hydraulic clutch; front disc wheel brakes using XJS calipers & pads;
Reinforcement: Doors are completely reconstructed using tubular aluminum framing with heavy gauge aluminum ends. Hinges are silicon bronzed, attached to new sub-frame; deck lid done with new wood, new floors, door sills, battery boxes & housing; all bolts are hardened, all smaller nuts/bolts & screws are stainless;

Finish: Every part was stripped and pre-coated with PPG’s DP-90; the final coat is PPG’s Deltron 2000; Interior: Vintage alloy race bucket seats; all instruments & switches rebuilt; Wilton carpeting; stereo system; Vintage History: The 120-coupe possesses nearly the same performance characteristics as the roadster.

Extras upon request:
Original head & restored carburetors; restored steering wheel; re-porcelained exhaust manifolds.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
