Car to be at auction 8/13
www.coys.co.uk/auction.php

Auction description:
Lot 118 - 1952 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe- €130,000 restoration
Estimate: €65,000 - €80,000
Registration Number: Austrian Registered
Chassis Number: 680259

This 52' built car was dispatched to the US on the 4th November 1952, and was supplied by Hornburg of Los Angeles. Amazingly chassis 680259 was discovered in the sand in Dubai by a German Lufthansa pilot in the late 90's, when it was exported to Germany. The brother of the pilot bought the car complete, and then sold it to the well-known and respected German Dealers. Racing Green.

Purchased by the present owner in 2010, it travelled from Germany to its new home in Vienna. Unfortunately of the vendor, it suffered an engine failure, and the engine was rebuilt. The buyer can now benefit from a rebuilt by the legendary Schmitz and Krieger of Cologne. During the rebuild a new oil pump, an additional oil cooler and modern filter, and 1-2-3 electronic ignition were fitted. The engine compression ratio was also increased to 9.0: 1 giving the car 183 bhp, 20 more than the original.

Most recently it benefits from the fitment of power steering, a 12 volt conversion- which makes this car so much more usable for taller drivers up to 190cm. Complete with a heritage certificate, restoration photos, various invoices including the engine rebuild and offered with Austrian registration papers, this must be one of the finest XK120's COYS has seen.

An independent expert report rates the car at '1'. Offered in excellent overall condition with Rio Verde coachwork over light brown leather, rarely do we see XK120's this good! For the collector.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
