Ebay item 7/23/12
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-XK120-XK-120-Fixed-Head-Coupe-/230829465590
Opening bid $44,500, no reserve, no bids 5 days left in auction. 36k miles.

Sellers description:
I have been the fortunate owner of this car since 1987. I love the car and am selling only because the reduced flexibility of age (mine) has reduced my use of it.

I purchased the car in presentable condition and drove it frequently for six years until an engine rebuild was required. The car has never been restored but in 1993 I had White Post Restorations rebuild the engine and transmission at a cost of $9292) and had the body repaired at the same time with new sills and painted with Sikkens 2-part paint by a local restoration shop at a cost of $10,000. There have been small repairs and enhancements, the largest being a cylinder head rebuild by Coventry West in 2008 (due to a tappet guide backing out). The indicated mileage is not correct as the previous owner had replaced the speedometer, but the car had just over 16,000 miles indicated when I bought it and the 20,000 miles is accurate for my ownership of 25 years. Head and gearbox numbers match data plate and I believe the block is also original.

Chassis: 680326
Engine (head): W6576-8
Gearbox: JL13878
Body: J2316

Enhancements
Front brakes converted to disks from a Mark IX in 1993. Calipers were resleeved by Stainless Steel Brakes then and seals replaced June 2012 along with a new master cylinder. Synthetic brake fluid always used. Original brake parts are included should the new owner wish to reinstall them though new brake lines would be required.

Aluminum radiator--the original brass radiator is in good condition and included

Radial tires--transform the handling when compared with the original Dunlop RS5s

Pertronix distributor--looks close to original and no more fussing with point adjustment

Battery--single 12v agm Brain battery replaces original two 6v batteries

Voltage regulator--converted to solid state by Wilton Auto Electronics June 2012

Generator--serviced by The Buko Company June 2012

Clock--original works perfectly with solid state controller by Mike Eck at Jaguarclock

Davis-Craig in-line water booster pump for those hot days though rarely needed

Block heater for those really cold days

Some new and numerous used parts are included.

While the car has won numerous local events, and twice best in the driven class at the Nations Capital Jaguar Owners Club in the early 1990s, it is not a trailer queen and not concours. It is, rather, a driver in very good, mostly original condition. There are the expected oil drips and the undercarriage is that of a driver, oily but with no rust. There are a few small flaws visible on close inspection but the paintwork remains very good. Some chrome was replaced when the car was painted and overall presents well. Window channels and frames, headlight rims and other bits of original brightwork shows the expected wear and there is a small area where chrome has bubbled on front bumper. Weatherstripping is serviceable though the car has not been driven in the rain and leaks should be expected. The interior is beautiful with the walnut dash and trim (restored by Woodexcel in 1988 at a cost of $2200) that help differentiate the coupe from the more common roadster. There is a small area of mouse damage on the driver's side wood door capping, similar to what is considered charming in fine old furniture, but easily replaced if desired. Leather, carpets and headliner are in good condition that shows the patina of use.

There is nothing like firing up that great engine on a beautiful morning and taking to your favorite country road accompanied by the sound of the exhaust and the passing scenery rippling over the sensuous curved fenders. This car is automotive art in motion.

The car is located near Damariscotta, Maine. The car is currently registered and copy of registration will be included.

Sounds like an amazing car! Do you still own it? How would you recommend a first timer buyer go about looking for a reasonably priced driver to buy? Thanks for any thoughts you could provide! Best regards, scott from Houston

The Motorcar Offered
This particular XK120's history was of obvious interest to former keepers, because in the days long before the "Heritage Certificate" was born, back in August 1974, then owner Mr. G Gray of Waverly, Virginia, wrote to Jaguar Cars in Coventry requesting details of its original specification.

An Archive Information sheet from Jaguar dated August 20, 1974 confirms that this left-hand-drive XK120 was a US-export model, dispatched from the factory on November 14, 1952 and delivered to Southern California Jaguar distributor Charles Hornburg. Its first owner was recorded as a Mr. A.K. Ferris.

The next period of the Coupe's life saw numerous mechanical as well as aesthetic enhancements as part of a comprehensive restoration by Jaguar specialists. Improved drivability and handling are provided via radial tires, an upgraded hydraulic system, aluminum radiator, electronic ignition, converted positive ground 12 volt battery, a Pertronix distributor, and a Davis-Craig in line water booster pump, among other improvements. The XK120's rear shocks were converted to telescoping shocks for a smoother ride, while a new wire harness was installed to keep its electrical system in reliable operation. Subsequently, the XK120's engine and transmission were rebuilt by Jaguar professionals at White Post Restorations. While the Coupe's engine was being rebuilt, many individual parts such as the carburetors and generator were completely overhauled as well. In addition, the 120's data plate matching cylinder head was completely rebuilt for improved performance, while the interior's walnut dash and trim were beautifully restored by expert craftsmen.

The body and paint were done to very high standards and the results are quite spectacular today - the dark blue livery over grey upholstery, done using correct materials, perfectly complements the fixed head's flowing lines. Rear wing spats and Lucas driving lamps complement the sensational-looking factory steel wheels; it's the very essence of classic British motoring. Once restoration was complete, the XK120 was regularly shown at numerous regional car shows and Concours events, where it was the recipient of various awards and accolades including "Best in Class" awards at several British Car Festival events.

Today the car presents cleanly throughout, with a very tidy engine bay and undercarriage. The 120 has been recently serviced including all new fluids and filters throughout. Complete with a manual, various receipts, and the aforementioned Jaguar Archive Information sheet, this XK120 presents as a handsome and very functional example today. The vendor advises that the car feels very solid on the road, pulling nicely, and with great sounds emanating from the twin-carbureted DOHC six under its long bonnet. Eligible for many fine vintage events, this delightful XK120 is sure to provide its new owner with the thrilling experience that Sir William Lyons had in mind over 60 years ago.

This magnificently styled, numbers-matching XK 120 has lines and beauty way ahead of its time, begging to be driven and enjoyed. Presenting an elegant and refined look that is similar to that of a Bugatti or Delahaye but absent from other classic Jaguar XK models such as the 140s and 150s, the XK 120 features a much more simple and elegant design that is very pleasing to the eye. Simply put, the XK 120 combines jaw-dropping beauty and astonishing performance in equal parts.

The previous owners of this Coupe had comprehensive restoration performed by Jaguar experts. Included in the restoration process: the Coupe was fully inspected and examined to determine the overall condition of the vehicle. Recently, Classic Showcase sought to freshen up, service, and take this XK 120 to higher aesthetic level by restoring the interior along with numerous performance upgrades. On the inside of the Coupe, our expert trimmers have fitted and installed a new interior from scratch using proper British materials including: leather, vinyl, moquette, carpet and hardura, to giv e a proper look. The seats and all interior panels were completely restored, and have a plush and elegant look. Under the bonnett, the 120's engine as well as it's compartment has been fully detailed, and the aluminum, valve covers and carb dash tops have been polished, and new hardware was installed as needed. The Coupe's instruments were cleaned, the electrical system has been sorted, new rubber was installed as needed, and all other major systems were tended to.

The car is delivered with the jack, spare, 2 sets of keys, manuals, receipts, and the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate.
