Ebay item 11/20/11
www.ebay.ca/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $5,100, reserve not met, 4 bids 9 days left in auction. Buy it now price $27,500.

Sellers description:
1953 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe. This vehicle is a solid California, black and yellow license plate car that was parked in 1971 with a believed original mileage of 78,050. It is a standard steel wheel car with spats, fitted with the 160bhp engine and a 4-speed manual gearbox. Although partially disassembled for restoration, it remains a complete car with all parts carefully removed and viewed in the photos. It is a full matching numbers car, with all components correctly matching up to the data plate. The original color scheme was black with tan trim, as there are still remnants of the original interior, such as the original seat leather.

The car was carefully stripped down by hand to it's original sheetmetal panels(as not to create any distortion), and the results revealed a very honest, decent, and solid body. There is very little rust in this car except for a small area at the tail of the car, and some very minor "peppering" in the B-post areas, just in front of the rear wheels. The body overall is very good, although the right hand front fender had some previous accident damage that was attended to, but still needs some professional repair. The panel gapping on the car overall is good.
The chassis appears excellent and straight with no rust-through areas at all, being a California car for all of it's life. The undercarriage is original and complete, just as you would expect from a car of this mileage. The car rolls and steers fine, the engine is not frozen but turns over when the car is pushed in gear. All mechanical components seem complete and ready to restore. The carburetors and intake manifold have been loosely bolted up to the car. I'm sure that this engine has never been removed from this car.

Some parts have been removed for restoration, but were carefully stored in boxes. All the glass is present and is in decent shape except the front windshield glass pair (broken upon removal). Some chrome items have been replated, such as some interior parts and the rare front windshield moldings. The car appears to be complete, and there is nothing that I have noticed that is missing. The instruments and switches appear all original and correct, but need restoration. The interior wood is in poor shape, but is now available as a brand new, ready to install kit.
Overall, this XK120 Fixed Head Coupe presented here is a very good, restoration-ready car that is a wothwhile and valuable investment. It is a complete, solid, matching numbers example with good California ownership history.

This car is sold with a clear and current California title.
Chassis # 680421
Body # J2426
Engine # W6755-8
Gearbox # JL14243
All numbers match the data plate.

For Sale ARTCURIAL 11-2012

www.artcurial.com/fr/asp/fullCatalogue.asp

English registration
Chassis n° 680421

- Beautiful coupe body
- Restoration of a very high order
- Matching numbers

On this car, the restoration shop Classic LT of London, left nothing to chance for the mechanical part, so it exists in a state of rare exceptional quality. It is also a coupe, which other being a beautiful body style on the Jaguar XK120, is such a rarity, and that too significantly so, as compared to the roadster. An important aspect is the invoices that reflect the kind of care given to the restoration of the mechanical bits. All components have benefited: the engine, the gearbox, the transmission, suspension, brakes... The interior has also been thoughtful treated, with repairs done to the bucket seats, carpets, upholstery, and nor has the body escaped the rigors of a thorough restoration, with the body scrapped down and then repainted, the chrome all redone and all seals have been replaced. The suspension has also been improved and the car is equipped with a special exhaust, plus the tyres are Blockleys. This stunning XK120 coupe comes with all the invoices and certification of authenticity from the Jaguar Heritage Trust. For the car's next buyer, there is a double advantage: a rare and beautiful body and a superb condition. This kind of an opportunity does not come up all that often.

Sold for €65.000 euros (plus buyer's premium and taxes)

Now in case this car was "Pastel Green" originally AFAIK it should not have been metallic, as "Pastel Green Metallic" was only used with the "Zofelac" paints in the Foleshill plant, after production moved to Browns Lane the "Pastel Blue" and "Pastel Green" were non-metallic and all other metallic colours (Silver, Bronze, Gunmetal, Twilight Blue) were dropped from production. Also for interior "Tan" is a saturated brown, very different form this one.

Footnotes

"We claimed 120 mph (for the XK 120), a speed unheard of for a production car in those days." - William Heynes, Chief Engineer, Jaguar Cars.

This beautifully presented left-hand drive XK120 coupé left the factory on 28th November 1952 and was despatched on 8th December of that year to Jaguar's Los Angeles-based distributor, Charles Hornburg. The fixed-head coupé is much rarer than the more commonplace XK120 Roadster, with only 2,483 completed in left-hand drive configuration compared with 6,438 LHD roadsters. Importantly, it retains its original matching numbers engine – W 6755-8.

The current owner purchased the car in the UK where it had been professionally restored, both mechanically and cosmetically, and repainted in the very attractive and period-correct colour of pastel green metallic, beautifully complementing the beige leather interior. Ready to enjoy, this relatively rare member of the XK120 family is offered with the aforementioned JHT Certificate and a UK V5C registration document recording the date of first registration as 1st January 1953.
