    Sellers description:
This 1953 Jaguar XK 120 Fixed Head Coupe is just beautiful. Its ebony Black paint complements the lithe, seductive curves of the XK 120 fixed head coupe coachwork while the beautiful Tan leather interior similarly complements the rich wood interior trim, dashboard and instrument panel. It is equipped with steel wheels, hubcaps, spats (rear wheel skirts), fender mirrors, black wall tires, Lucas fog lights and tri-bar headlights and has a full tool kit with Jaguar-labeled tools. It is a multiple award winner, including a 2006 Jaguar Club of North American class win in the Chicago Region concours, Best in Show at the Kohler International concours, Best Postwar Sports Car in the Geneva, Illinois concours and Best Jaguar at the Greenwich Concours It is remarkably clean and orderly, a singularly exceptional example of one of Jaguar''s greatest automobiles that is ready to be used, enjoyed and shown with pride.

Peter, I'm guessing that plate is a prop for photos. It would obviously be a very valuable number in England but Hyman Limited is in the USA, so it's not even a proper registration plate for the road here.

    Auction description:
    Automobiles of Arizona
    16 January 2009
    Lot 213
1953 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe
To be auctioned on Friday, January 16, 2009
    Sold for $71,500
    Chassis no. 681166

This handsome, award-winning 1953 XK 120 Fixed Head Coupé is finished in black and complemented by a pair of period style tri-bar headlamps, Lucas fog lamps, dual fender-mounted chrome mirrors, graceful rear fender skirts, and black painted steel wheels with chrome-plated hubcaps and trim rings. The cockpit is trimmed in tan leather hides with matching tan carpeting and features Jaguar's signature wood interior trim, dashboard and instrument panel. In addition, the XK 120 is offered complete with a full tool kit with Jaguar-labeled tools. Under the bonnet, the legendary XK inline six-cylinder, dual overhead camshaft engine and the entire underhood area are presented in highly detailed and period correct condition, commensurate with careful maintenance.

This very fine example is also a multiple award winner, receiving a class win at the 2006 Jaguar Club of North America Chicago Region Concours, Best in Show at the Kohler International Concours, Best Postwar Sports Car at the Geneva, Illinois Concours, and Best Jaguar at the Greenwich Concours. Of the approximately 12,000 Jaguar XK 120s produced in total between 1949 and 1954, 2,680 were Fixed Head Coupés, and accordingly, every surviving example remains very desirable to this day. Benefitting from numerous awards, this exceptional XK 120 Fixed Head Coupe is sure to delight its next fortunate owner.

    Addendum
Please note that the serial number for this car is 681166.

Looks like a nice car, I have to wonder why the PF770's are installed upside down (180 degrees rotated)...

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
