Auction description:
Lot 040: 1956 JAGUAR XK140 FIXED HEAD COUPE
Classic Cars, H&H Classic Auctions Ltd (27th July 2005)
Overview
Reputedly among the very last of the 733 or so Fixed Head Coupes destined for the Home Market (RHD chassis production began at 804001), this particular example was manufactured on 29th November 1956. Originally finished in British Racing Green with green leather upholstery it was first supplied via Scottish dealer Rossleigh UK. In the current ownership since 1989 (at which time it was in running order), 787 BYD has been an ongoing restoration project for the last sixteen years. Although it left the factory in 'special equipment plus C-type cylinder head' specification, it has since been uprated with a larger 3.8 litre version of Jaguar's legendary XK DOHC straight-six (the block bears the number DX 667 and the head is stamped with NC 5007-8). While this unit together with the chassis and four-speed plus overdrive gearbox are said to have been rebuilt, the rest of the car requires considerable attention. Thought to be substantially complete, there are bills on file for new sill sections, hinge boxes (ú681.51) and the front-end primer painting (ú622.35). An historic car that deserves saving, it is offered for sale with Heritage Certificate and sundry paperwork.

Probably the last of this model in RHD as 804843 is thought to be dismantled in Dec 1970 and lost

787 BYD was bought from the H&H auction by my wife's uncle and restored over the next couple of years.

It is now in my ownership and is used regularly with the latest outing being the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting over this last Bank Holiday weekend.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
