Car now offered at Twyford Moors:
jagxk.com/showroom/jaguar-xk140/029jaguar-xk140-dhc-rhd-1955-for-sale
Seller's description:
Here we have an original UK, right-hand drive Jaguar XK140 drophead coupe in for sale. The car was originally sold by H Webb of Hornchurch to a Mr John Young of Surrey in November 1955. By 1966 it was owned by Mr G P Dale of St Albans. In 1988 Mr Dale sold the car to the current owner as a restoration project. The car underwent a full nut and bolt restoration in 1990 with Autech Classic Cars Ltd. This restoration is recorded in the history file along with a collection of photographs. The car has covered less than 9000 miles since this restoration.
This XK140 has been off the road for some years and has just been recommissioned for the road. The restoration undertaken 30 years ago was completed to a high standard and the car remains in good condition. Given the passage of time the car possesses the charming patina of age but is very presentable and useable.
Mechanically the car was restored to original specification with drum brakes and the original four speed gearbox. The engine (a 3.4 S-Type unit) starts and runs beautifully with good oil pressure. The car pulls along nicely and the Moss gearbox is in good condition. The drum brakes are effective but do remind you that you are driving a 1950s car. Overall, this is a wonderfully original car to drive and really delivers that period feel.
This car would be ideal for those looking for 1950s authenticity. Alternatively, it would be a great starting point for a driver looking for a more upgraded car. Being a sound and well-built car, it could easily be upgraded to the buyers desired specification with anything from a five-speed gearbox to disc brakes.

Handsome Example of Jaguar’s Revered XK Series Sportscars
Cared for by Just Two Long-Term Owners from New
Presented in Elegant Deep Blue with Grey Interior
Benefiting from an Older Frame-Off Restoration by Marque Specialists
Presented with Restoration Photos, Receipts, and Documentation
On July 4, 1955, this handsome XK140 Drophead Coupe was purchased new by G.P. Dale of Sandridge, St. Albans, UK. Mr. Dale retained the car for more than 32 years before selling it to the consignor on February 21, 1988. In October 1990, Jaguar specialists at Autech Classic Cars Ltd. in England, were commissioned to perform a full frame-off mechanical and cosmetic restoration. The car was driven and lovingly maintained until 2014, when it was retired from the road due to the consignor’s declining health. In 2021, it was taken from static storage and returned to running order by XK specialists Twyford Moors in Clanfield. Photos and receipts for the 1990 project and receipts for the 2021 mechanical refurbishment accompany the sale. Having just two long-term owners from new and benefiting from an extensive older restoration in attractive colors, this rare, right-hand-drive 1955 Jaguar XK140 presents today as a warmly patinated example of Jaguar’s flagship sports car.
